Is Rasplex Dead?

Is still use Rasplex but is there another alternative for the Raspberry Pi? Because this project is dead…

Maybe it will be “off hold” with the release of Raspberry Pi 4?

+1 for hoping rasplex gets revived now there’s a new PI4 out. I want collections !

Yes please bring back pre-caching!

The last update is more then 2 years ago, i think we can conclude that Rasplex is done.

Yes, here’s another that hopes for a version for the Pi 4. I’m still using the original Pi - it works but it’s very slow. I don’t really want to get a 3, though, now that the 4 is out.

Be great to get the UNO interface for Rasplex…

Is plex for kodi also dead?

I love Rasplex the video streaming flow without problem.
I don’t know why developers stop update this OS :pensive:

I love it! use it every day.
Its absolute the best player. Plex team have much to learn from Rasplex.

I also accepted that Rasplex is probably dead. And on the Odroid, even though it worked, it feels reaaaaly clunky and at times just freezes.

I know switched to the new nVidia Shield Pro and I’m more than happy with it - should’ve made the move much earlier. Also a nice alternative would probably be the Vero 4K.

I just setup Rasples on a Pi 3 this week and it’s working like a charm.

I guess it should continue to work??

I’m still rocking two Raspberry Pi 2’s in the house and one in a remote location - all talking back to my server, all working very well (for the features they do support). I’m hoping for a release that will support the RPi4 officially (haven’t yet purchased the 4) - otherwise the two Xbox consoles will become the default Plex players in the future when the server version pulls away too far from the Rasplex players…

I’m hoping for updates too—though for different reasons. I’m building a media console and all my music is in Plex and I’m using a Pi3 running rasplex as a client driving music through a hifi berry daughterboard. I’m trying to hook a 7" touchscreen up as the client interface but the touchscreen calibration is completely hosed on this build of rasplex.

An alternative for folks with a pi who want to run plex, there’s an (I think?) official release of an embedded client that I successfully got running on my Pi3. Even though it fixed my touchscreen calibration issues, I hated the other tradeoffs so much I went back to rasplex.

You can find the nightly builds of the embedded client project here: https://nightlies.plex.tv/public-test/plexmediaplayer/embedded-testing/

I’m on a mac and used Etcher to make the bootable SD card.

The only real wonkiness is getting wifi to work if you don’t have a wired connection. Here’s an excellent guide that worked for me. You’ll have to temporarily hardwire your client pi to your network and ssh into it to perform the operation, but it worked like a charm. https://gist.github.com/maoueh/8260199

Good Luck!

I recently tried the embedded builds on a RPi3B+ and they were just bad. Very unstable and it crashed after playing back one file. I found a “community” build for RasPlex v1.8.0 which adds RPi3B+ compatibility and that was MILES better. It’s completely usable, and works great.

Plex should really bring their embedded player the stability it needs on RPi3B+, or hopefully RPi4B.

where did you get this community build?
