From what I've seen from Roku it does have a lot of channels which does include Plex but is it really worth it? I have a Plex server which is a fairly new laptop and I watch Plex with my HP ENVY m4 to Sharp Aquos via HDMI with no problems. The only thing I see is that if I do get a Roku3 I won't have to use my computer as much. PLEX does have channel plug-ins and I don't need premium cable channels or TV channels because I get movies and shows by different means so again I ask does anyone hear think it's worth it? If you do please say why because I am undecided in a Roku3 purchase. Thank you!
Personally, I've tried the Roku twice now and I hate the interface. I think it's sluggish and it just didn't do it for me.
With that said I find the AppleTV using Plexconnect to stream Plex a great solution.

"personally!"?
you have not tired the new roku friend if you are saying that it is slugish. It is nothing like the ones before it. Actually, out of all the Netflix apps ive, Plex Netflix client is the fastest by far.
The Plex app needs some improvement though but even that runs nicely.
Rok has many more channels i use other than plex too. My wife gets on TMZ, i watch news on it. My kid watches pbs and all free. come on.
I have the Roku and it's a great thing for my bedroom. It's small, hides behind the TV mounted to the wall and allows me to access everything on my Plex Server, Netflix, Amazon and by using the Plex It bookmark to add videos to my queue I can even watch youtube videos on it.
I got mine on sale for $45 and it's one of the best pieces of technology per dollar I own. I wouldn't personally use it as my main device because it does take a little to load (in plex, netflix is fine) and I don't love the interface but as a second room media player it works great. I use the server in my living room to hook up to my main TV.
To give you a second option, I use an Android stick computer in my basement while I work out and that does more in my opinion but you need like an air mouse or the lenovo mini keyboard with trackball or a mouse and keyboard to use it. If you're comfortable with that I would recommend the MK802IIIS with the Lenovo mini keyboard which you can usually get for around $70. If you just want to use up, down, left, and right on a controller, the roku is a better choice.
Thank you all for your feedback. I have a great deal with my cable company using their Triple Play package but it ends in September. That's when they hike up the prices after a year. I'll cut them off and then I'll get a Roku3. One question. When I go into Roku's PLEX app it takes me into my library right?
Yes, from there you have to select which server/section you want to navigate into.
Thank you!

The Plex media server has to be running in order for you to use the Plex app on the Roku, so your laptop has to be on at all times.

Opinions differ on sluggish I guess. The real thing for me is the terribly UI. It's phenomenally bad!
Not everyone cares about UI and WAF. A lot of people are having running just a file list and picking their shows.
If you want a nice interface use anything other than Roku. If you want something easy to set up and works most of the time, go with the Roku.
Again. It's all personal preference.

The ROKU has the highest WAF of any device I have ever used to stream media to my TV (old XBMC HTPC, Samsung Blueray player, WDTV etc), .. It just works, and the Roku Plex UI isn't ugly it is just BASIC it really functions like most of the older Netflix versions did, but that is why it is so easy.
First media system my Wife, and kids can operate with the remote without ever calling me to ask what do I do now, or ITS NOT WORKING AGAIN.. It maybe once a month it needs a hard power cycle but that is it. Purchased one for my Dad as well connected to my server.. He has NO problems using it and he is very low on tech literacy.
I am however now looking at PLEXBMC because well I like Bling but I am going to need to do a lot of testing to make sure it works as easy.
I do have a ReadyNAS so if I have the ReadyNAS and a Roku3 connected to my Home Network they should recognize each other and the use of my laptop can be minimized right?
The roku 3 itself is a pretty solid and stable box, no doubt. I own two of them.
As far as the plex client goes it does indeed have a very basic UI and is indeed a watered down plex experience as far as getting everything plex has to offer. Things like fanart, backgrounds, multiple views types and many other things are not supported on the roku plex client. However if you can get past the lesser experience it is a very rock solid client and works very well at getting the job done.
Personally i think it would be best to wait because there are going to be a lot more choices in this coming fall.
Everything from the new Android TV ..to a possible new Apple TV along with other streaming boxes and clients for existing products.
I think a better question here would be is waiting just a few more months worth it? My answer would be yes.
Cheers!
I have my Roku 3 and it works great with Plex and my ReadyNAS!
