Is the constant buffering normal?

Hello everyone,

Server Version#: 1.16.5.1552
Player Version#: Plex for Samsung 4.5.1

I put my server on a NAS Synology DS918+ thinking it would be a good NAS for 4k streaming.

But I have constant buffering for huge movie files (50Go - UHD 4k - Atmos 7.1 - HDR 10 - HEVC)

Everything is on the same network, 1Gbit. The TV is a Samsung QLED 8k 65" QE65Q950RB.

In the dashboard it doesn’t seem I have problem with the CPU usage but if I check the verbose log, I find speed around 0.3 or 0.4 which seem to point to the CPU as the problem (can’t transcode fast enough)

plex|690x771

I don’t have any problem on “normal” size file for 1080p.

I also tried with the plex server on my i9 9900k 32Go RAM nvidia 2080, and I still have minor quick buffering (withe some dropped frames).

Am I a bit too ambitious? Is there something I can change (use hardware when available is checked)?

Thank you for any information you can provide!

Hello,

The buffering problem starts instantly as I start the movie.

You’ll find the logs attached, hope it will help. If I have to provide something else, let me know.

Thank you very much

Sorry for the verbose, I will definitely turn this option off. I was using it following the help on plex website and forgot to turn it off and make a new log.

For the subtitles, I’ll use the plex feature to get subtitles in srt. Thanks for the info.

For the audio, I already have an Anthem MRX 1120 but I don’t have the speakers. Will definitely use passthrough when my system is up and ready. Thanks again for the info.

For the video transcoding/direct play, I’ll try to use Handbrake to have a compatible format for my TV if changing the subtitles doesn’t help much.

Thank you again for your precise answers.

Well, looking at my TV specifications, it should be able to play HEVC level 5.1 so I hope it’s only a problem of subtitles.
