Migrated from Windows to Synology DS418+ Server - Trouble with Buffering

Server Version#: 1.21.1.3830
Player Version#: Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K - 8.11.0.22186

I’ve been using the same NAS as the data store for Plex for a long time, but had been using a Windows machine as the server. It has worked perfectly but I am trying to get the same thing running on the Synology NAS now so that I don’t need to keep the computer on at all times.

I’ve been able to transfer the libraries with no issues.

The problem is that I am getting bad buffering even when no transcoding is being used.

I’ve attached the logs in case it helps.

(File removed)

It’s stuttering / buffering bause there is no hardware acceleration being used.

If you are using subtitles, make certain they are text-based and the player is not set to “Burn Always”

If you are not using HW acceleration, you may enable it in Settings - Server - Transcoder - Show Advanced.

I have hw transcoder enabled. It shows that hw transcoding is in-use in the dashboard:

4K (HEVC Main 10 HDR) (hw)

4K (H264)—Transcode (hw)

Also, if I change the audio format to DD 5.1, the dashboard shows direct play for both video and audio - but I still get the buffering.

Looks like the processor in this NAS won’t handle 10-bit HEVC. It’s too bad that Plex couldn’t identify this and remove the (hw) tag from the dashboard status.
