DS918+ And I am don't know what is going on. Who the thief here? Plex or Synology?

Server Version#: Version 1.13.8.5395
Player Version#:

You cannot play 4K on DS918+. Not in 1000 years. It has false advertising.

Yet I was thinking that I would use fast transcoding from Plex, maybe it would help. As many on forums were, oh use Plex Pass, you will have no issue with 4k.

My TV a Samsung Q7 series with Plex APP on it simply cannot go even 12 mbps quality without shutter at least once or buffer.

My NAS has 2xNVMe Cache + Iron Wolf Pro 2 x2 RAID1 + 2 gbps uplink via CAT6

Yet 4K Videos 10BIT HDR , the TV notice them, it switches to HDR , the sounds works amazing…but it buffers , the CPU has 30% , bandwith bearly moves at 5mb/sec. While inside the whole network I reach easy 100mb/sec. And my internet speed test 1000mpbs download 500mbps upload.

With all that 4K is just an marketing for both Plex as software its players unable to render 4K and establish a gigabit connection.

DLNA files converted by PLEX are unusable, cannot be played directly by TV via DLNA

No what to do? Failure project? I just wanted to stream easy in-home 4K video what is that hard?

P.S: Is not the TV. It can go Netflix 4K without shuttering. Speedtest goes well in 700mbps via wireless.

Since you seem to be upset based on this plus your other post about Samsung,
MANY folks here will prove to you it works. We only need figure out what you haven’t setup right.

How about some log files (DEBUG , not VERBOSE) collected after you observe the buffering.

Also, if you hover over the item played, “Get Info” -> “View XML”.

Attach that XML and let me also know if you have subtitles enabled in the player.

I will come back with the logs. So far I googled for some alternatives. Is not about the money is actual usability. As now I tested on Playstation 4 App, it does get a bit better speed yet still buffering and yet no CPU load or RAM or bandwith. It has no sense as on a simple SMB v.1 I do LAN transfers via Wi-Fi at 80Mb/sec.

Why it cannot max my NAS CPU & Bandwith. Something is really bottlenecking. And it ain’t RAM or CPU.

Impressive to see that others have for free a lot of hardware transcoders yet they also offer premium services.

Meanwhile maybe this helps as the file I am trying to play.

Normal HEVC 2160p. ZERO surprises there.

Subtitle presence and usage important. (forced subs will surprise folks)

Yes it has subtitles via .srt file.

Why is ZERO SUPRISE? I really wonder. Because I really don’t see the technical relevance here.
As a device that should support 2 4K files streams. I wonder.
And if that is a problem what are the recommended files? Webrip’s ?
So no way to play pure 4K?

I’m sorry, I should have clarified.

2160p, 55 Mbps, HEVC, Main 10. Nothing in there surprises me. Perfectly normal stuff.

Now, your SRT subtitle file may be of consequence.
The reason is simple.

  1. If subtitles enabled - OR - they contain FORCED subtitles for the language selected
  2. PMS will burn the subtitles in usiing the CPU after transcoding.
  3. On a Synology NAS… the result is stutter.

Your debug logs (the ZIP file) will tell us exactly what’s happening

Here I’ve tried with his natural subtitles also yet same.

I’m sorry, but This doesn’t contain what i need… It is verbose logging. The data needed fell off the back end of the logs (only 25 MB deep).
