is the Live TV Shareable with Friends?

Hi Everyone,

I just got my HD Prime unit yesterday and am using a cable card for FIOS services. I figured if nothing else renting the cable card for $5 would save me the ~ $25 a month I pay to rent 2 box’s.

So far… not a bad experience, but I am not quite blown away either. Hopefully that will change as the UI gets more refined.

Anyway, to my question… Is it possible to share the Live TV with Friends the same way you would share a folder?

The reason I am asking is that I have my main Plex account that is my server and what I use when I am at home. I also have a second account that I at our lake house that is a “friend” of the main account (this way if family wants to use/watch something it does not show up as watched on my main account… king of like having profiles on Netflix).

My hope was to be able to access the Live TV while at the lake house almost like a “sling box” type set up but I am not seeing the Live TV option when logged into the 2nd account. Am I missing something or is this not an option?

Also, as a side note, has anyone had any issues with watching 2 channels at once?

As I mentioned I just got it all set up yesterday so I am pretty new to the Live TV, but when i had 2 TV’s going I was getting choppiness and “weak signal” messages. This was all within my house using ATV’s all hardwired to the network.

I’m pretty sure you can only view live TV right now with the primary (main) login.

Use this Plex channel for the time being in order to share Live TV:

Configure it and then share the newly created Channels category with whomever you want… including “Home Members”

Would this be something that will soon be incorporated into Plex Live/DVR?

i’ve set up tvheadend ( https://tvheadend.org/ ) and use LiveTVH ( GitHub - taligentx/LiveTVH.bundle: Live TV streaming with Plex and Tvheadend ) to make the live tv available through channels. Sadly, it performs better than plex ‘live tv’, way more reliable and works on more devices.
You can open up channels to users, but, it’s an all-or-nothing kind of access. Depending on other channels you may have, it may be an option, or not :slight_smile:
