Is the new free movies/tv feature targeted only for Americans?

I’m asking because I can’t see another civilization on earth who are welling to watch ads every 10 minutes while trying to immerge into a story…

Anyway giving a quick glance at the free library, there nothing really worth to watch, only direct to dvd kind of movies.

regular broadcast television often has more than that

We are bound by contracts of the movie studios who provide the content. Some have region restricting some do not. Some expect a certain amount of ad revenue else there is no reason to supply the content at all

More general information can be found in the FAQ Video On Demand Info

I agree with this. I watched a movie this evening and the frequency of the ads is actually too much. It varied between 3 ads after 15 minutes, and then it was another 3 ads after 10 minutes.

That’s just too much!

And while where at it, lets talk about the placement / timing… Suddenly goes to ads in the most inopportune moments, which is very annoying…

I was just told we’re actively working to tune things for the best mix of timing and which ads show up for whom

Not in my country, the ads on regular television are not that present, they are longer, right, but never an entire movie will be chopped like now on Plex.

This is pure craziness, you can’t watch a 1h30 movie like this, just insane, you start to get into the ambiance, then BOOM, 3 ads + you add the loading time as it’s not straitghforward as a live direct stream on TV, I mean, how can you enjoy this…

And that is likely part of the reason some content is geo-restricted because some studios see no point in offering it to regions that won’t watch them with ads they require to make offering them worth the effort.

We are trying to get ads when we can to fall on natural places like chapter markers when we can but it is a slow process.

Strangely enough my Browser shows a lot of content with filters but my LG app shows One filter and little content Just (Most Popular)

My Location is Australia. So why the difference?

Server:

LG App:

you have two pictures of browsers. I don’t know of any reason there would be any difference in content. if you search for something on one it should be avail on the other.

Note: @BigWheel .Sorry that’s the full list/ array in Browser on server MacOS, The LG app/ Big screen, only shows one line of “Most Popular” nothing else. If that’s the case it is useless in it’s current form on a LG TV.

No:
Happy Holidays
Love in The Air
Best of LionGate
Music Docs
TV shows
Drama
Sci Fi
Action
Documentaries
Comedy
Skates, Skis
Creepy Creatures
Bollywood
Fight Night
For the Whole Family

All fields are not showing in LG APP except Most popular and Continue Watching. Does that make sense?

yeah thanks for clarifying. Not sure why that would be. I’ll pass it along

Great Idea guys, this feature.

I have fiddled with LG app setup without any solution. All other functions are good. At first I thought it maybe my VPN on Server but I have disabled with no change. I do use a split Tunnel with Plex as a App Exclusion if that was a possible cause but no.

Thanks @BigWheel

Video scene change detection has been around for ages. Even a simple attempt at that would be better than splitting a movie in the middle of a sentence.

also by sampling AUDIO, much like the music analysis, you can potentially match ‘quiet’ audio with ‘quiet’ video to better identify scene/chapter transitions.

We’re working on a few methods for improving ad placement, this being one of them.

You might also investigate the heuristics that comskip uses to identify where to remove commercials. :sunglasses:

Yep, there are a few methods we’re working on to improve ad placement.

The amount of ads is ridiculous, a local tv station here was free and was based on ads, we thought those ads were to much, ads were between shows and movies and once in middle of the show for about 1-2 minutes, same with movies, but there were ads twice the whole movie, but this…?
Start with one ad, 10 minutes later BAMM another ad, but this time its not one but three, then again 10 minutes later…
There is no way I’ll be using this service like it’s now, and many more like me won’t use it.
If this is what the media owner wants then they can just forget it, people would rather go to certain websites and download the material and skip all those ads, therefore there will be no income to the media owner.
I’m ok with ads, but this is just… I have no words…
I’ll just go back to Netflix, atleast there I can enjoy the material, and the subscription is far more convenient then having to sit through all these ads.

‘regular broadcast television often has more than that’

Not in Europe. Remember the state networks often carry no or a limited amount of commercials. In the UK commercial broadcasters are legally limited to an average of 7 minutes per hour. Similar restrictions apply throughout most of Europe, Germany for instance must have 20 minutes uninterrupted programming between advertising breaks.

From Wikipedia ’ European Union legislation limits the time taken by commercial breaks to 12 minutes per hour (20%), with a minimum segment length of 20 or 30 minutes, depending on the programme content.[16] Live imported telecasts with shorter segments, such as U.S. sporting events, replace the original ads with promotional material.’

Attempts to impose US style advertising will not be accepted by viewers here as we are just not accustomed to it.

Has this service been withdrawn? Is this service even currently available in the UK? I can’t see it in my PLEX dock and have followed the guide to enable it but the ‘Movies and TV on Plex’ doesn’t seem to be an option in the online media sources sub menu to enable through the web app?
