Is there a way of putting a film in separate sections without having to have 2 copies

Is there a way of putting a film in separate sections without having to have 2 copies of the film in different folders?
Ive been trying to work this out but cannot find a way to do it.
eg. Ive got a section called “Movie” and a section called “Kids”, for my grand children. It would be nice to put that same film in both, one because its a latest release film, which shows in my recently added movies, and the other because, its an animated children’s film that I would like to be in the kids section.

Is there away around this without doubling up my hard drive space on the same film?

Please be non technical if answering, I’m not very tech savvy.

thanks
Les

Then my answer won’t be of use to you

If you want to have a look nonetheless, here it is: Add anime movie in two libraries (TV Show - Specials, Movies) - #2 by OttoKerner

I forgot to mention, Im on a Mac.

so I gather it would not be the same anyway??

Thanks
Les

I’m sure there is a way to have symlinks on Mac as well, considering that it is based on BSD Unix

P.S. there you go: https://www.howtogeek.com/297721/how-to-create-and-use-symbolic-links-aka-symlinks-on-a-mac/

I don’t know what that means, but thanks.

I have tried to “Make Alias” of the file and tried putting that in the different folder but Plex does not recognise that. was just hoping there’s a simpler way

thanks
Les

That looks and reads exactly what I want… Although, totally out of my comfort zone and would probably blow up the universe trying.

Is the there no way of just allowing aliases ?

Thanks
Les

Unfortunately not, AFAIK.

ok thanks

Les

You can make 3 paths,

  • /media/adultmovies
  • /media/sharedmovies
  • /media/kidsmovies

The first 2 in your regular/adult library, the last 2 in your kids library.

Movies in the shared folder will be usable from either library.

Where do I make those paths?
I really don’t understand where and what you mean by this?

Thanks
Les

ah, got you I think. Let me try that see if it works.

Thanks
Les

Thanks
