I know it seems to be an ongoing debate here in the forums but i just recently uploaded my photos and videos to my server and all of the videos that were shot in portrait mode instead of landscape are stretched out instead of just showing it how it was filmed. any ideas on how to change that? It only happend thru plex, all of my other ways of watched those videos are normal.
The top picture is what I can do by handbrake but it’s still not right
I hope someone gives an answer because i cant find a lot of solutions besides conversion.
I also am having this issue. Quite annoying and pretty much makes video upload useless.
I just updated the latest version plexmediaserver_1.7.6.4058-8fa494d15_amd64.deb and I do not have that issue. Al of my portrait videos are fine
I am also running the latest version 1.7.6.4058 and my portrait videos still are being displayed in landscape. Maybe vidoes need to be re-uploaded? It seems that this is an iOS video issue as I have uploaded portrait videos from an Android phone and those seem fine…though some are wrong which makes this even more frustrating. Also, if I play the video directly from my server using VLC it plays correctly which leads me to believe it is a Plex thing when playing the video. I am not sure if VLC has the smarts to rotate the video prior to playing though.
For me it depends on the plex app… some of them distort iOS videos in portrait mode, others don’t…
I thought I’d add my comment here. I can view iPhone videos fine in the Plex web app, but when I view them on my Sony Android TV, they will be rotated 90 degrees…very, very frustrating.

Yes, this is how it is for me as well. On web app they play correctly and on roku and LG smartTV they rotate 90degrees. Very frustrating, not sure why this hasn’t been addressed by now.
