I have the exact opposite experience with Plex on my two AppleTVs. But then I have a robust server and I make sure my content is suitable for ATV to begin with.
If you find using Infuse, VLC. or other custom players work better, then it’s most likely because your server is underpowered and/or your media is not natively compatible with the video/audio formats that the ATV will do.
Seeing that there’s someone in this topic that actually works for Plex, I’m hoping to get some real answers. I cannot get Plex to function for more than a day on my Qnap 2.5.1 (latest firmware, latest PMS manually installed). The port shows open on CanYouSeeMe.org, no firewall or VPN (NAS is plugged directly into router). If it worked yesterday, and I have done NOTHING to the router, NAS or Plex, then why does it not show up at all today (tried on every device, tried from app.plex.tv in browser, as well as the direct link from the NAS)? I just want to relax and enjoy when I can, so I appreciate any all real help.
Yea these get tiresome when it’s so obvious user error. No fixing this…
Why is this a problem of user error? This program is awful. I have never seen so many issues with a paid service in my life. Now I am experiencing a message that says ‘there is an unexpected error check out the forum’. What kind of error message is that? Ridiculous. I am going to be looking for alternatives.

All we want is for Plex to do some really simple things in the year 2018. We shouldn’t have to “google search” how to create custom Smart Playlists. It should be intuitive.
We shouldn’t pay for a product where the “Smart” filters are only capable of limited “or” functions and have bugs reported unanswered for 6 months.
We shouldn’t pay for a product where the community has to ask for basic revisions to such obviously needed functionally …and then yet still finds a way to go months years unanswered.
So if the problems are in fact “user error” than I say Plex needs to do a better job at making it’s product easier to use.
