If set the burn subtitles to automatic subtitles, it will directplay PGS and SRT, but not ASS(transcoding). If I set it to image based only, it will directplay ASS and SRT but not PGS(transcoding). Is there a way to get all three working?
PGS does only direct play on nVidia Shield and the “desktop” Plex clients.
Almost no device manufacturer does implement support for a subtitle format which is only occuring on DVD and BluRay discs, when this device is not a DVD or BluRay player.
ASS is only fully supported on the desktop clients and when burning in subtitles. (formatting, animation, colorization etc. When direct played on other clients, any of these advanced attributes may be ignored.)
Add the Apple apps to that list (Apple TV, iOS)… at least for PGS/vobsub subtitles; I haven’t been playing with the ASS format.
