Using non SRT subtitles causing problems

i could always use .ass/.ssa subtitle formats or any subtitle format really, and the video would play automatically (direct play). Now if i switch to .ass/.ssa subtitle instead of .srt the video acts as if its streaming and buffers every minute. Sometimes it will even crash the server.

whats the solution? the latest updates seem to be breaking things
