Issue getting Plex app on iPhone to request LAN permission

Player Version#: 8.17 (iOS)
Device: iPhone 14 Max Pro

I want to use Chromecast and cast from the Plex app on my iPhone to my smart TV. I did this before but I just got a new phone. When I installed Plex on my iPhone it did not ask me for local network permissions. Therefore when I go into my Plex app and try and cast I get none of my devices. Oddly enough I get Airplay (but the quality is terrible). I went into my iPhone settings/privacy/local network settings to try and toggle it on but Plex isn’t even showing up there. So I am unable to cast from my phone at all. I’m not sure what to do…

Same here. iPhone 14 Pro does not detect any Chromecast / Google speaker endpoints. Other apps on the phone do and my iPhone 12 continues to work without issue. Seems isolated to the iPhone 14?

Yeah it seems isolated to the iPhone 14 only from what I’ve gathered so far. Anyone know what the next steps are?

I don’t have a Chromecast. But I do have a Nvidia Shield TV Pro and my Iphone 14 Pro Max can cast to it fine. Maybe it is just something with Chromecast.

Thanks for report and logs. If anyone else is willing to share your iOS logs after installing on local network it would be appreciated.

Thank you for looking into this

There appear to be several threads and people with this issue with logs provided and it’s still not fixed. My server reports as ‘offline’ due to the correct permissions not being applied or recognised by the app. I’ve reinstalled the app serveral times and it never prompts to allow any permissions during the process.

The server is aware of my ipad client under ‘authorized devices’. Strangely enough, I can actually get the app to prompt for local network access permissions by trying to manually add the server under advanced>server connections. However, it doesn’t seem to apply the permissions correctly, or at least, the app thinks it doesn’t. The local network permissions toggle then appears in settings but it doesn’t do anything. I can’t even see chromecasts on the local network, so something is obviously broken.

Please, fix this. Why not just add an option under settings to manually check for and properly apply all necessary iOS permissions?

Edit: Partial workaround… If I can get the app to launch without logging in (which seems random whether or not you get the prompt to continue without signing in), I can add the server manually and content will appear. Unfortunately, it all disappears as soon as I login, and the server goes back to ‘offline’ again. The app also still doesn’t see any chromecast devices, and yes, I’m on the same network.

I’m having the same problem trying to connect to a local Plex server from iPhone SE 2020. The Local Network permission doesn’t appear for Plex under the iOS Settings. Same issue after reinstalling the app.

Edit: After rebooting the phone, I got the local network prompt immediately after opening the app.

Hi all, thanks for reporting this issue.

I think we have a fix for certain devices (predominantly iPhone 14 / 14 Pro) not prompting for local network access now. That fix will be in version 8.23.

For those on the beta program that will most likely be available around 19th July, with App Store release around 2nd August.

This is fantastic news. Thank you!

Yes! Thank you!!! Didn’t have access to the beta but just downloaded 8.23 from App Store and can confirm I was prompted to allow local network access upon opening the app. My server is no longer showing ‘offline’ and I can view content on iPad Pro M2. Thanks for fixing this!
