So I have been using plex for years now. I have been using RasPlex as a way to take a small portable device with as I travel so that I can watch or listen to my media on the road. All has been great. I then decided to move my media server from our media room to my office for 2 reasons. One is the PC is fairly noisy and it generates a fair amount of heat, the other is I have a UPS in my office that can run the server for about 2 hours if power goes out (and it does several times a year in Houston). So I decided to use a spare Raspberry Pi 2 I had for this purpose.
My problem came from my audio. My media room has a set of the old Klipsh Promedia 5.1 Ultra speaker sets. The only input however is from 3 1/8 in headphone jacks. I have no HDMI or optical inputs. I decided to pick up a Diamond sound card at Fry’s on clearance for $7.
I was able to load up Rasplex 1.0.1 and connect the sound card and set my audio output to the correct ALSA card setting. When I launch music it plays great. When I play a movie however I get no audio. The top option for output for video I only get the 3 standard options (HDMI, Analog, etc) None of those do a thing for me.
I tried searching here and google and have not found anything that works. I’ve tried modifying the alsa.conf file (the alsa-base.conf no longer exists in the newer versions.) but it is read only under /usr/share/alsa because of the SquashFS file system. I can’t remount the root system as rw to see if that would solve my problem. I am hoping someone here can point me in the right direction.
Thanks,
Josh
