+1 on the issues.
After a bunch of jacked up recordings for the past 3 weeks, I finally looked into this tonight.
This forced transcoding is no bueno !
A 2 hour TV recording results in a 495MB MKV file - wow !!
Thankfully reverting back to 1.6 installed with no issues (that I’ve found anyways).
Yes, this is ‘beta’ so it’s understandable - but still a bummer.
Has Plex acknowledged the issue exists with their forcing transcoding ?

Good to know that 1.6 is unaffected. I couldn’t remember which version it started on, so I went WAY back. I might roll forward to 1.6 now. Thanks
I had similar issues with latest versions on some of my Nas units using 1.6.1 works fine on all my units and 1.7 only seems to be working properly with the automatic-recoding on my QNAP server, I think its something to do with memory consumption or processing power required to re-code thats the only thing thats different with my servers, it was same plex version on same network with same HDHOMRUNPrime boxes and same cable provider, only major difference is really the processors and amount of memory.
I have tested further with QNAP server and it seems to record just fine with 1.7…3 version of plex with DVR. I still don’t know why the transcoding is forced or why the change to MKV format was implemented. I know there are some people having issues with subtitles in MKV format as well.
To goback to 1.6 you have to un-install plex and re-install it, it won’t screw up any of your existing recordings but you will have to re-scan your channels (I think I had to do this , its been a while since i downgraded my main plex server).
The new feature in 1.7 for watching live tv and being able to record is a cool convenient option , just wish recordings weren’t getting AFU.

Yep ! I’ve confirmed a recording last night was perfect.
I happened to have 1.6.0.3698 around still - not sure if any newer versions than that are ok, but I’ll be good with 1.6.0.3698 until this get resolved… someday.
I just wanted to add that I’m having the same issue. I’m running Plex version 1.7.3.3937 on Ubuntu 16.04 with an HDHomerun Connect dual tuner (Firmware: 20161117). Plex showed “2 tuners - 10 recording now.” I tried to restart the service using “service plexmediaserver restart” however that did not fix the issue. I had to reboot the entire server to free up the tuners.
@dadyer22 I am running 1.6.1.3722. with no problems.
I also have this issue (recordings stuck at 100% well after scheduled recording end). Logs attached.
Well, I just downgraded to version 1.6.1 and the recordings are working without issue proving once and for all it wasn’t reception or hardware issues but software issues for the newest plex server. I guess I will stay on that version until I know for sure this issue with the software has been resolved… .
+1 also seeing this issue. Wouldn’t be such a big deal if just one recording crapped out, but after the first one the DVR is completely broken until restarting.
Has anyone on this thread tried the new version just released .4017 to see if we can upgrade again?
I just upgraded tonight to the new version (1.7.4.4017). I’ll let you know how it goes.

Had any issues yet Brent? I’ll update tomorrow if you haven’t had anything. Thanks for testing it for us.
@lorddoskias So far so good. Things are recording as they should, however I did not have the tuner issue every day only occasionally. I plan to update this thread in a week or so.
**** Moved to a new thread ****
Here’s my update. I have found a repeatable path to make the Plex Media Server unstable.
Environment:
PMS: 1.7.4.4017
iOS Client: 4.14
Mac OS X: 10.11.6
iOS: 10.3.2
Tuner: HDHR4-2US (20170612beta1)
I open the iOS Plex Client. I start watching a live broadcasts. I click the menu on the lower right to bring up a list of other programs. Select another live broadcast to watch, but I get timeout errors. From this point on I have to restart the PMS to start using live broadcast or DVR recording functions.
This reoccurred from me last night. Both of my tuners were in use long after the show had ended. Once I restarted the server it released them. I see there is a another new release is available (1.7.5 ) but it does not address these issues.
Same problem using Shield tv Pro.
I am running 2 HDHomeruns and my server is a beefed up i7 and I am also having all the problems described here. It started with recordings stuttering and buffering on my LG TV on some channels. Yesterday all recordings would go on indefinitely until the server was restarted, when trying to play them they were corrupt. I was also unable to cancel any recordings in progress. I have reverted to v1.6, recording in .ts format and all seems normal.
I have had this same exact issue, I originally had a Hauppauge quadHD tuner card and this was happening and plex kept saying it couldn’t find the tuners so I returned it and purchased two HDHomerun Extends instead and although I no longer have the issue of Plex not finding the tuners I still have the same problem where recording stops, it shows like 10-20 shows all recording at the same time and under settings it says like “19 recording now” with a 2 tuner HDHomeRun EXTEND.
Power cycling the tuners does not fix the issue, the only way to recover is to exit Plex Media Server and then re-open it or to reboot the whole PC.
This makes Plex DVR very unreliable and if they can’t figure out a solution soon I’ll be forced to subscribe to the HDHomeRun DVR service instead.
Considering I’ve had the same issue with both the Hauppauge quadHD tuner card and 2 HDHomerun Extend tuners the issue is clearly with Plex not the tuners.
I realize Plex DVR is still in beta but its been in Beta a while now, time to smooth out the wrinkles.

The 19 recordings to the tuner issue can be addressed by rolling PMS back to one of the versions people have tested. See earlier in the thread. I am on 1.5.6 and don’t have the issue. The 1.7 releases all seem to give grief.

Totally agree here. This issue has been around and widely reported for quite a while now. It’s frustrating. Hopefully, the devs are working on it. I just wish they’d at least acknowledge the issue and let us all know they’re working on it.

Where do I get previous versions? I only can seem to find the current version
