Issues connecting to Plex

Hello everyone. I have been using Plex for years with almost no issues. Now, today, I am completely unable to connect to Plex at all.

This is what it looks like. It has failed to connect for the duration of the day. I cannot access my server at all. The Plex status page says Plex is working, but I am completely unable to get mine to work. If any more information is needed to help with my issue, I am willing to provide it.

Same issue. Something must be up with the Plex.tv servers.

I hope the issue can be fixed soon. I have already tried Emby and it didn’t work properly for me, and Jellyfin doesn’t work remotely without a bunch of technical know-how I don’t have, so Plex is currently my only option for media servers.

May be seeing similar issue. My Roku is currently connected securely, but 1 remote user is not and local web client also will not connect securely. Odd.

The computer I am on, for reference if anyone else sees this, is the computer my files are stored on, so no one can currently use my Plex server.

I ran into this issue recently too. If I disable remote access in PMS, I had one browser that could connect via PlexWeb, and a different computer where the same browser couldn’t connect. It worked on a Roku and Shield

In my case, the computer that could not connect was the one using PiHole for its DNS. I removed PiHole as my DNS server and it resolved immediately.

Just a thought, in case any of you are doing anything similar with adblocking.

(I didn’t have time to research the situation further yet, for those concerned that PiHole prevented Plex from working inside the LAN)

If applicable, how would I remove PiHole as my DNS server? I barely know what a DNS server is, let alone how to remove PiHole or whatever.

Then this probably doesn’t apply to you.

Ok then, well hopefully there will be some kind of solution. As I had said before, I have no alternatives to Plex I can use for the reasons listed.

Looks like an issue with the latest release which came out earlier today. Best option is to rollback to a previous version, which involves stopping the program, uninstalling the current version (via Control panel) and then go to C:\Users\Plex\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Updates and choose the previous edition. A reboot may be required

I don’t think mine had updated at all though. There’s a sign telling me to update, so I think I am using a previous version.

Not running the latest beta.

have you tried just rebooting/restarting your Plex Media Server?

Just did, nothing changed.

I didn’t earlier because a remote user was watching something. Just did. It worked. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Go figure.

Edit: Could this have been possibly related to the earlier maintenance as well?

Strange. I had to restart plex on the server and reboot my client (nvidia shield).

@johnkibler can you try http://app.plex.tv/desktop?secure=0

Nevermind, I rebooted again and it’s working again. Thanks!

Broken here on ubuntu 64bit as well. I only noticed this after a few hours running on:
plexmediaserver_1.20.2.3343-c91f25744_amd64.deb

Will see what happens with:
plexmediaserver_1.20.2.3370-b1b651549_amd64.deb
