Unable to access Plex Web on local network

Hello all,

I’m having a strange problem that seems to have started yesterday evening. Essentially my setup is a local Plex Media Server that I access via Plex web (app.plex.tv) from various devices Dell Tablet and occasionally an iPhone to stream media to a television.

However as of last night (worked previous weekend without issue) - I was unable to connect to the server I simply got a timeout or ERR_request failed. I assumed that the server had gone offline so I rebooted my machine and tried again, no success. A quick Google suggested updating to the latest version of Plex. Which I did. But still nothing.

This evening I have completely removed Plex, all associated AppData folders and left over program files. And reinstalled the latest verison 1.15.1.791 from the website. Re-added libraries etc. tried to connect from phone and Dell Tablet to app.plex.tv. Nothing.

Can anyone shed any light on what is going on here? Short of rebooting the router as well. I have made no changes to system, firewall, DNS etc. but still won’t work.

I have now enabled remote access and seem to be able to access my server via 3G/4G which is strange as local connection is still not possible.

Check the security setting for your server. Settings \ Server \ Network \ Secure Connections. See if you accidentally turned that off. Plex clients default to not allowing insecure connections so if you disabled that setting, clients could not reach it.

After almost an hour of digging - I updated the firmware on my router (Asus N66U) and restarted all my affected clients. After re-obtaining IP addresses all is now working again. I can only assume a DNS issue was the cause of this.
