Issues with multiple streams of same movie/file at the same time?

I ran into an issue today where I was trying to watch a movie locally that my brother in law was already remotely streaming at the exact same time. It ended up eventually kicking him off saying “Connection to the Plex Server has been lost” and then when he tried to start playing it again my local stream dropped me back to the Plex movie menu. Weird thing is on both it was only transcoding audio and my Plex server has never had issues with multiple concurrent streams of different movies at the same time.

Should Plex be able to handle streaming the same movie/file at the exact same time Is this more likely an issue with the hard drive speed/hardware that the movie resides on (on my NAS server)? Again I don’t seem to have issues with multiple streams from that same drive/NAS as long as they aren’t the same movie. I was wondering if anyone could offer insight/advice as to what may be the issue.

Wow really weird.
I do that all the time and never had issues with streaming the same movie on more than 1 device either local OR remote.

I hope someone from Plex would chime on this rather unusual behavior.

Have you looked at logs surrounding times this happens??

If you still have the log files which contain the failure (they’ve not rolled off the end), please attach them (settings - server - help - download logs) and attach the ZIP file.

In the future, should you replicate it again, wait about 30 seconds and then grab the logs. The data will clear and upfront

Also please be certain VERBOSE logging is NOT enabled

Thanks for the help! Well it looks like it’s just multiple transcoded concurrent streams in general are now an issue. He tried to play another movie while we were watching something else and it’s doing the same thing. Log file attached, it happend around 10:29am and again around 3:47p.

You do need to enable debug level logging.

Settings> Server> General> Enable Plex Media Server debug logging

Ok new files with debug turned on - happening with all types of clients. In this case I was trying to watch Hidden Figures and my brother in law was trying to watch The Dark Knight. It’s only transcoding audio, my cpu is a i3-2120 (CPU Mark/Pass Mark 3898) with 4gb ram. I think that should be plenty for multiple audio transcodes correct? I never had any issues with multiple streams before, but now it is doing it all of the time unless one client is playing something that doesn’t require any transcoding at all.

In these files most of what happens is around 23:15 to 23:50 as we both keep trying to play our movie and it keeps dropping the stream.

Bump would love to figure out what’s up - can anyone take a look and see if anything stands out?

Would you cut me a full set please? Settings - Help - Download Logs. Attach the ZIP file here. It makes it MUCH easier for me to bounce around through the different log files (some of which you didn’t include)
