Player Version#: Chromecast (new version), Firestick 4k
For months now I have been having an issue with a user I share with that uses android based devices. More times than not when she tries to play something, it gives her the error “cannot play this content at this time”. I use android based devices locally and have no issues.
I went over, turned of any ad blocking, and also watched the logs as I tried to play content, but nothing stood out as an issue. One day it would just magically work, then back to not working at all. Web player works fine.
Fast forward to today, Im on vacation and took my chromecast (w/remote) to the hotel. Now because I am remote connecting, I am getting the exact same error, but web player in my browser works fine.
I thought I heard a while back there may have been issues with ssl with android but at a client level not server…does this ring a bell? FYI…Jellyfin is not an issue
Assuming this is about the attempt to play s01e05 of “The Osborne’s Want to Believe”… it doesn’t seem to be a certificate issue:
Your Android client identified a number of restriction for the stream (e.g. max. video bitrate 2 Mbps, max. width 720px) and has therefore negotiated with the server to get a transcoded version. That transcode however doesn’t seem to get going or is stopped (Android app thinks it gets no data from the server while in parallel killing the transcode session from its side – not sure how to address this and if it’s an actually transcoding issue or just a hiccup on the Android client).
You and me both. I have done everything, such as not require ssl, change the quality/allow direct play, sign in again, nothing works. But as I said it’s only android based devices and during remote. Complete loss at this point I have to use jelly din remotely.
@tom80H I upped the max quality and direct stream/play works without issue. So seems transcoding is the problem but still not sure in which way. I use docker on Unraid and I have hw acceleration on which works fine for non android remote users.
Hw-accelerated transcoding only works for basic video transcoding. This could be about subtitles that need to be burned into the video in which case the transcoding must be handled by the CPU.
Still not working at all. We took out chromecast with us on vacation and had the same problem. A family took their firestick on a trip and told me they couldn’t play anything. Something is linked to android. Unfortunately, Im getting to point of ditching Plex as im out of options and its been like 9 months of this so far.
I have recently disabled relay and made sure the players were set to original quality.
Went to one of the problem locations and I allowed insecured connections. It worked. Then I force stopped the app, restarted the server and set insecure to off. It also played fine. So im so lost. Someone please help!!!
@tom80H Here is a more recent log of someone remotely trying to play something on a firestick. I have even tried to disable relay and it worked once doing an insecure connection. Its just too damn intermittent to pinpoint.
