Server Version#: Version 1.19.5.3112
Player Version#: 8.3.1.19108
So my server is on a 2014 Mac mini and this set-up has been working flawlessly for years now with remote access working with various clients I tried.
However, since like 2 weeks ago (it started with previous version of server software but latest update didn’t fix it) remote Android clients stopped playing video. To make it more confusing same client (Android phone) works in local network and also plays music remotely - the only thing it doesn’t want to do is play video remotely.
Server is fully visible even on Android devices I can browse server contents and other (non-Android) clients can play content remotely without any issues - I tried iOS, Samsung Tizen OS, LG webOS all work fine. When trying to play remotely on Android it just spins and doesn’t even report an error - just doesn’t start the video.
I have identified so far that the problem seems to be related to secure connection which apparently fails between Android player and my Mac server and I have been able to “fix it” by disabling Secure connections changing the setting on server from Preferred to Disabled. However this is not really a solution as it creates more problems with other systems and I generally am not comfortable in running it unencrypted.
I tried multiple resets, tried disabling firewall on the server, reinstalling client apps but the problem is persistently there and is only related to Android which is very annoying. Is there anyone else having similar problems and any ideas about solving it (other than disabling secure connections) would be greatly appreciated.
It was running on the same setup for years without any hiccups. I didn’t change anything in my setup or network settings and the fact that it is accessible to other than Android clients means that it is definitely a server issue.
It started with the previous server update and the last update didn’t fix it.
It would be nice if we can get some support to advise of any solution. Disabling Secure connections isn’t a permanent solution.
I cant believe i just came across this, I litterally setup a reverse proxy (own domain) since i thought it was SSL/certification issues, I completely wiped my PFsense router and started fresh, i changed all setting from unraid… and i guess this is the issue…
Do others also see android in general being an issue not just the mobile app (i mean TV’s & Chromecast? i mean it being Android and all… i have about 4 family member sharing remote with me and all are complaining about either endless buffering or not streaming…

Same issue running server version 1.20.1.3252-a78fef9a9 on an Asustor NAS. Android client is 8.6.0.20351 on an Oneplus 8 pro running Android 11 beta 2.
I posted about this problem some time ago and it continues to be an issue for me as well. Never got any assistance from Plex on it either. It doesn’t matter if I try to allow insecure connections or try a manual connection it just doesn’t work on my android phone or TV. Plex will work just fine on the browser on both devices, just not the app.
