I have encountered several issues where features that used to exist no longer exist and defects in what I consider fundamental functionality, especially with watching recordings in progress.
While there is some overlap with the problems posted here, I don’t think that all of my issues are covered. I also agree with the requested feature enhancements mentioned by the original author, but first I’d like the basic functionality to work again!
If necessary, I can try to remember to collect debug logging the next time I attempt to watch a recording in progress, but I question whether any of these problems are not known by this point (as they’ve been occurring for months) – with each new release, I kept hoping I’d find that they’ve been resolved. The most frustrating part is that these things used to all work, but now they don’t – sounds like there’s a significant gap in the testing being done on new releases!
- Lost feature: you used to be able to watch an in-progress recording from the DVR Schedule grid. Now, you can only modify the recording. This is a big deal to me because the shows I am most likely to watch during recording are sports, and to get to them via the Guide grid means that I have to scroll down through many, many channels in order to get to the one I want (not easy with just the Roku remote) – where I used to be able to just select it from the schedule with a couple of clicks.
- Our hockey games are frequently covered by NBCSN, but are shown by our local sports network, so I would typically have to be sure to select to record only on that channel, rather than the (default) “Any” selection. First, there was a period of time when that stopped working – even though I selected the local channel and the Guide would show recording in progress for that channel, the recording was actually occurring on NBCSN and therefore not the show I wanted to record (or watch live). Lately, I have seen “Any” as the only selection, so I hope that the guide has been improved to eliminate the (inaccurate) listing for NBCSN, but I don’t know for sure.
- When I start watching the live recording at the beginning, it seems to stop keeping track of the end of the in-progress recording. This negates the prime benefit of starting to watch the recording after the start: to be able to skip breaks and only watch the “live” action. As soon as I reach the point in time that I started watching, I lose the ability to skip forward any more. As a workaround, I have tried to exit and restart watching, but (as noted in the other post) without the ability to resume viewing where I left off, it is difficult to get back to where I left off.
- While I can’t describe it precisely (because I’ve never taken notes on the problems as I’m trying to watch), the client just seems to get “confused” about it’s place in the recording. Visually, it will appear to be skipping back in time in the recording, but then it always resumes at the same point (where I re-entered watching the recording “live”, I think). I end up giving up watching the part that I missed (due to being unable to skip forward, the earlier issue) because I can’t get to it!
