Absolute garbage live TV & DVR playback. I’m typing this while recovering from one of the most annoying problems. If it was free I wouldn’t complain but this is something offered that I paid for. This is mostly watching football and mpeg2.
Things that happen when fast forwarding 30 seconds
hangs at 33%. CPU doing nothing. Can skip ahead or back and it fixes itself. Annoying.
Skips ahead HOURS or to live position ruining the game
Goes to the beginning of the game. Takes minutes to fast forward to where you were. Most common and most annoying. I like football but this is so annoying I’ll just give up and delete the game
Try to watch one of the 2 live TV shows being recorded
Says all tuners in use. Duh. Tells me I have to cancel a recording to watch the game being recorded.

I agree completely. I’ve had all the problems you have had but another that is more annoying. I set up Plex to record a football game. I want to watch it after it is into the game 30 or so minutes. I go to start the game and if I’m LUCKY enough for Plex to know I’m recording, I will get the choice: Watch from beginning or watch live… Doesn’t matter which I pick, I get the spinning circle and game never starts.
I paid for the Plex Pass specifically for the Live TV / DVR and It’s been broke for YEARS!
Clearly pushing crappy streaming content into the ecosystem is far more important than
fixing show stopper bugs for Plex
I find that the server tuning/recording part generally works pretty well.
I had gave up on my ChromeCast. Just got tired of hoping for fixes that are NEVER coming.
Switched to and old Roku which was stable but clunky, slow, and also has time shifting issues.
I now use a N100 Windows 11 mini PC running the Plex HTPC windows app.
Everything in this setup is good except for time shifted viewing which is better but not 100%.
It still seems to lose it’s mind progress bar and skipping wise but I’ve found that just continuing to just mash the skip button will get you there. Also, pausing then advancing the progress bar seems to work the best but why do I have to do this type of workaround?
Plex Please just put some cycles into fixing this for your paid customers!
I gave up on ChromeCast for Google TV a long time ago. We used it up until we bought a new LG TV with WebOS on it. With that change my FF-Rewind problems went away, completely. My server is a older HP workstation and I’m running Plex in a Docker on UnRaid. We were considering switching to Emby or Jellyfin before we bough the TV, but the wife said since we paid for Plex, she wanted to stay with it. Plus, she knows how to use it.
You may consider dumping the Windows server version of Plex, when we ran that on a newer computer, it would crash every few weeks, or just quit working all together until we rebooted the computer. With the change to the Docker on Unraid, it has been super stable, running without a hitch for months, if not years.
I run my server on a Debian Linux box and it’s just great.
My family room client is a Win 11 N100 mini PC running the Plex HTPC Windows App.
The only thing that’s not always absolutely perfect is skipping around currently recording TV.
It can get a little confused progress bar wise.
Just continuing to press the skip gets you there…or pausing then skipping works 100%
Agreed there is just so many things broken and have been for years.
Being able to play a recording in progress is broken and a google will shows its been broken for years for most people.
When it does work, and you thinks great its playing it stops the in progress recording so you don’t have the whole recording…
The guide is slow and errors in part, the UI needs work, sorting, filter. getting from the top to bottom with a remote with just a control pad. Its feels like its been tested with a keyboard and not remotes
Plex team, I’d like to know why this is such a widespread problem that isn’t being addressed or responded to. Has the dev team recognized the issue and have started a major refactor to address it? I think we paying users deserve a response on this prolific and obnoxious issue!

You forgot to dd that the TV DVR scheduler has a lot of shortcomings.
stop recording multiples of the same recording - most TV broadcasts with time shifting the same episode 2+ times per day. If the episode is complete and successfully recorded don’t re-record the same episode and waste tuner time
need to be able to record starting from a particular season instead of “everything” or “only new”
if I record “only new” but want to record an old episode I can’t. I have to change to “record everything”
