Yesterday I started an NFL game a little late with the goal of catching up during commercials. Whenever I tried to skip forward, however, it skipped forward from the beginning of the recording rather than forward from my current spot. I tried in vain to determine where I was in the recording each time, but ended up either not going far enough (and having to try again from the beginning) or skipping too far and missing some of the action.

Furthermore, I eventually seemed to run into a maximum limit that I could go forward, and I was stuck just watching the commercials and being behind the live game for the rest of it.

I’m going to try again tonight with the Live Transcoding enabled, and commercial detection, but I don’t have high hopes. Our local channels are not currently available for myself and two siblings, so I was hoping that Plex could be a stop gap until the DirecTV negotiations are resolved, but that won’t be possible if we don’t have the ability to reliably skip forward and backwards during a live recording.

If anyone has any settings I can try, or possibly a way to split the recording into sections (quarters/half) while it is happening (and still be able to select one to play it back), that would be fantastic. Otherwise, I’ll probably have to spend additional money on a streaming service that carries these games.

The progress bar dysfunction has been a big problem for a LONG time.

Although that thread is specifically about the windows and web players I know, form hard experience, that its been a problem on the Android and Roku clients.

The very latest release of the Android client 10.5.0 is looking VERY promising.
I’ve been testing watching currently recording shows and using FWD/REV skips and has not gotten confused yet. ( it always did previously )

I’m not sure if the Android releases translate to Smart TV releases so this may or may not be helpful to you.

I currently have 10.6 running on a chromecast hd and this is still an issue in live. Also, if I pause for a few minutes, and start playing again, the playback is stuttered. I think this is a platform independent server side issue, here’s other reports across multiple clients and servers experiencing the same and/or similar problems:

Here’s my info that I experience the issue on:

  • Server version: 1.40.0.7775 on Windows
  • Roku client version: 7.14.5.8943-041961b59-PlexPreview and 7.13.9.8924-fee2a403a-Plex on models 3820RW and 4200X
  • Android client version: 10.6.0.5141(3aa3109) on ChromecastHD TV and 10.5.0.4996(5d68759) on firestick 4k
  • Tuner: HDHomerun Quatro Model: HDHR5-4US Firmware: 20231214
