It shouldn't even being converting!

Server Version#: 1.25.4.5487 (CPU i3-2100 8 GB DDR3 RAM, 120GB SSD system disk, and 4TB HDD for video files)
Player Version#: in browser, Chrome
these are basic 1080p files, trying to watch on my own 1000Mbps LAN.
direct play should work. it has in the past.
i’ve remote streamed 4k from the same hardware, even through a VPN capped at 30Mbps at times
.
i purposely am using a low cost, and low power because all it’s supposed to do is serve the files. why is it trying to convert crap that doesn’t need to be converted?

lifetime pass holder for years, and this crap has only started in the past few months.

wtf

I would make sure your quality settings are on Max and probably turn off auto adjust quality if it is on just to start. Though we would need to see the server logs to figure out why it thought it needed to transcode. Resolution or bitrate are not the only reasons it might.

Are your files H265 HEVC? If so they won’t play on the web app without converting I believe.

looks like it is. but i thought H265 was better than H264. wonder why it’s an issue. is this only on browsers? or would tv/phone apps be subject same issue??

Just the web browser. H265 has better file compression but isn’t necessarily better per say. The only benefit is a smaller file size for the same quality file. Most devices can now play them but not web browsers.

Chrome also cannot play AC3 audio,
