I’ve tried to search for how to use this feature as I use iTunes for my music collection which has grown to over 50k songs over the years. I would love to use plex for music but until they (if ever) support iTunes with information sync both ways (ratings etc) I guess i’m out of luck.
Back to iTunes plugin which has its own menu in server settings, it doesn’t do anything? Enabled/disabled - what’s the meaning? I’ve set my XML path and double/triple checked that it’s the right path. I’ve enabled XML sharing in iTunes menu. I’ve set empty music library to see that would it populate it, nope.
I’ve yet to see any official answer to why and what’s the meaning of this ‘Plugin’.
Noticed it last night and made a new music library, pointed it to my music collection (same PC as plex and itunes), and left it to do its magic. (with embedded tags etc enabled).
I actually use MP3tag program and i’ve got every one of my tracks tagged by it. Naming can be a problem as I’ve let iTunes to handle it, so it’s missing the artist from the name, like you said.
I’ll try to make naming changes and see if it picks up rest of the collection, as it has matched and added about 30% of my collection during the night. Biggest issue at the moment would be that no ratings, plays or playlist has come over to the plex side during the night.
After triggering manual scan at morning, now I got all my music in Plex. Except: playlist, ratings, play counts etc. I don’t even need playlists as those are all smart playlists, I can create them again easily. But ratings and play counts are the important ones. By the way, I didnt make any changes to track names.
Thanks for the help but all of this really didnt solve any of the problems, as all I did was once again add music library manually and none of the iTunes data were read. So we make full circle to come back to this “I’ve yet to see any official answer to why and what’s the meaning of this ‘Plugin’.”.
Why would there be this option when making a library if you think that Plex doesnt import those stats?
