I've lost access to my PMS server

Hi! I have changed my Plex account password and magically lost access to my PMS server installed on Ubuntu Server. I have beed reading this issue on this forum and users talks about to rename Preferences.xml file and restart server by no luck. Then, trying to fix this issue I accidentally deleted my Preferences.xml and I don’t have idea how to recover access to my PMS server.
I tried also install Plex on my QNAP NAS to start from fresh install because I think then should be forced through the setup wizard again but no luck, don’t show this wizard and I still can’t access to my server.

Anyone can help me?

Thanks!

I believe QNAP still keeps hold of application data after deleting it, meaning that it will load previous PMS installation data after re-installing it.

If you want to start completely fresh, you should look into deleting/purging plex data after deleting the application. (not your media files/folders obviously).

How did you install Plex on your ubuntu server, using the apt repository or via .deb package?

For the Ubuntu install, where you deleted preferences.xml:

Restart Plex Media Server, if you haven’t already.

Point your web browser at: http://ip.addr.of.server:32400/web?secure=0

Follow the setup steps, except skip the part about setting up new libraries.

If you share libraries with other users, you will have to re-share the libraries with them. They will probably have to logout / login from their respective Plex clients to pick up the new shares (and re-pin, re-order, etc).

Thanks for your quick reply! I’ve fixed this claiming server using a script: https://github.com/ukdtom/ClaimIt

Now I can access without any problem.

Thanks!
