Hi, I have a similar issue starting a day ago. I am not able to access plex media server through when i click on the plex app in qnap. Site can’t be reached. I have reinstalled manually and still not able to get to plex. When i log into plex direct from my chrome browser it is not able to locate my server and everything in my setting is gone. Thanks
We don’t use plex.direct for logging in. That domain is only for the apps to use. It’s tied to your certificate – which changes every month.
To open the host http://LAN.IP.of.server:32400/web in the browser
Looking at your plex.tv account,
- You had 3 abandoned servers. (a long time. I removed them)
- The 873 was deleted from the web app 3 days ago
When you reinstalled, did you Uninstall first or just Install on top of the old ?
The 3 abandoned servers were because i have lost all connection with them and all my data so i had to rebuild them again just like 3 days ago. everything was there the day before and the next day there was on connection to my server. i tried to connect back and nothing that is when i tried to install without removing and i have also tried to remove and then install. still not able to get on
Can you tell me what i can do to fix the plex media app that is not opening the site?
Don’t use app.plex.tv at this point. It’s generic and looks for a server on your account. We need to find out why your server isn’t attached to your account.
Do you have a PlexData shared folder ?
If you do,
- Stop Plex if it’s running (in run mode)
- FileStation - PlexData - Plex Media Server
- Right-click
Logs→ Compress - Download the ZIP file
- Attach it here.
I’ll look and see where it went sideways.
If it’s running but unclaimed, we’ll fix that.
PS: To test if it’s unclaimed (while running) http://lan.ip.of.qnap:32400/identity
I do not have a plex data shared folder just a shared and public folder
I have local device event log
Please do the following:
- Create a shared folder named
PlexData(exact upper/lower case) - Restart Plex
- If it starts, let it run for 30 seconds then stop it
- Now use the steps above to grab the PMS log files.
Logs.zip (436 Bytes)
Thank you!
We found it.
Jul 21, 2025 22:44:20: Failed to initialize logging: Error parsing file at “/share/CACHEDEV2_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/Library/Plex Media Server/Preferences.xml”
The Preferences.xml file is corrupt.
If you use FileStation → PlexData → Plex Media Server
DELETE Preferences.xml
Now start PMS.
Let’s see what that does
YES! It worked. It takes me to the how plex works screen. Is there a way to get my last plex build back or do i need to go in and start over? Thank you…
When you started it up and got back into it, if the databases were there (not erased by uninstall) then it would have been found.
If you didn’t see anything , you should start over.
I still have all my data on my qnap
I’m referring only to the PMS instance.
All your media should still be there.
I would just go ahead and build up a new server instance.
When you get it all rebuilt (using the media already on the QNAP), I’ll look at Plex.tv and help you clean up anything there
Sounds great. Thank you for all of your help.
