Oh yeah… I completely understand… And with the direction its headed, I totally see Plex charging for their software at some point in the future… The business model is unsustainable otherwise… They will be able to (in these infancy years) get away with “Contact Tidal” or “Contact Warner Brothers” for any hiccups for those issues, however, if they make more strategic partnerships, they will undoubtedly have to move from a Forum derived support system to a customer service call center oriented support style… It’s inevitable if this path keeps going forward the way it is… And that means needing additional revenue, and a larger development staff, etc…
Ahh… that makes more sense that that word would be censored… I saw 6 squares and thought pirate, but that word is also 6… so…
I had to think a minute - 'cause only 1 out of 20 West Virginians knows what ‘appropriate’ means, but everybody knows both meanings of the other one…

I about fell out of my chair… lol
aside from the several good and bad posts, this thread is entirely irrelevant.
who cares if the OP stopped using plex? I don’t. Plex don’t. Certainly no one else on the thread does.
The entire plugin debate has come and gone a year ago.
Even the dead horse left.
I mean, Reagan stopped being president in the 80’s, doesn’t stop people from complaining about him… lol
Of course not, but it was a perfect thread in which to de-rail… Fun on a Sunday.
Lay off ‘Dutch’ or there’s gonna be trouble…lol
again it is not any of plex’s business what plugins are installed by the enduser.
You’re a broken record… While it’s not their business to KNOW what you install, it is their BUSINESS to choose whether to allow you to be able to install it or not… They are a private company, this software is their property, they can censor that property however they choose. That’s well within their right, especially if plug-ins were preventing them from achieving their goals…
This is not true. They are liable if it can be proved they “induced” copyright infringement. See legal precedent below
…in your opinion.
Everyone has the right to one and you need to accept that people can have different opinions s to yours.
We have provided rational thinking behind ours. Simply restating yours as a response is not very persuasive,
OK guys, I guess the big question is: What is there goal? Because I dont see a viable future here.
My only suggestion would be to follow the IPTV format somewhat, because they cant compete in the normal way. What I would see is them offering many cable style channels including local from all over the world. Right now I never watch what they offer.
They need to make something worth watching a find a demographic to specialize in. With all the steaming and cable channels why would anyone need to keep a library of stuff. It’s all out there now.
They’ve made that fairly clear:
Irony of this entire argument:
You can just not update your server install to the newer versions, and continue to use your old plugins.
I don’t know what their long term goal is, only about a single short term goal as Juice mentions above. But I would say more of that is definitely on the Horizon.
There’s other avenues they could eventually uncover, but I think in the present moment, this seems to be sound advice. I am still waiting for someone to announce en masse a way for someone to stream ANY movie while it’s still in theaters in a legitimate manner. Maybe this is an In-Road plex can help with, maybe not.
I have thought about this a lot too, I’d be really really happy if they brokered deals with content providers from all over the world. This is a service I would pay for without question. Mongolian, Russian, Japanese, Thai, Chinese, Sudanese, whatever… Give me all the content. Let me see what the rest of the world see’s. I’d actually pay somewhere in the area of $50/month, maybe more, for this type of service with any kind of real reach. (maybe 50-90 countries worth of programming).
That’s a simple answer, because my ripped content is better than their streamed content, and I can still view my material in the comfort of my own home when there are internet outages, or while I am travelling abroad where my IP would prevent me from viewing netflix content from my home country.
Yes, but there probably will come a time when that server install is rendered obsolete and upgrading will be a necessity.
I’m on the latest server:

and plugins are still available…

…reading down that illuminating thread I linked above you find:
I think this is a largely overblown fear. I see posts on this forum once in awhile from people still using pre-1.0 versions of Plex Media Server. Those are offically no longer supported, but they are still using them.
In fact, if this is really about pirate IPTV service plugins, I think you’re more likely to have the plugin stop working because the service backing it gets raided/sued into oblivion than you are because of a software issue from not updating Plex.
