I recently built a new Multimedia Server using the Asrock J4105M (quad 2.5ghz) and just love how it only uses around 15-20 watts but can still HW Transcode 4 streams of 4K HEVC to 1080p h264 (was just a test, real usage will be just 1 or 2 Transcodes at most) and my wife has been very happy with it. I currently have FIOS TV along with their DVR and 2 boxes and want to replace them by buying a HDHomerun Prime for $149 (on sale at their website) along with my Plex Pass for live TV/DVR. The ONLY thing stopping me atm is not knowing how the Plex Live Guide will be compared to the FIOS Guide when it comes to lag/slowness changing channels and I’m hoping other users could give me some feedback on that question as it could be a deal breaker with the wife if it takes too long (me2 to be honest)… :>
I have a Celeron J4005, very similar processor. It has an onboard SSD and is running PMS for Windows 10. I’m using an HDHomeRun with OTA via antenna. It takes around 11-13 seconds to change channels.
I also tested my Quad-Core i5 Windows 10 PMS, which uses Comcast on an HDHomeRun, and it also averaged around 11-12 seconds for a channel change.
In both cases, it was using Direct Play to a Roku Ultra client.
I have no idea if this is a normal wait time, or specific to my system!
Thanks for replying and appreciate the info you provided regarding the response time for changing channels for Live/DVR. Just tested my FIOS DVR and it takes around 1 sec changing channels so your results could be a deal breaker for me. Will wait for other results and wish I could test this myself but I would first have to spend $150+ for the HDHomerun Prime to try it out which I would rather not do yet…
