Just a wish. Or two on Movie Collection sorting

It would be nice if collections, specifically Movie collections), had a sort option. For example, i know the current order is release date, which works great for sequential movies in a typical group.

That doesn’t work for movies like Star Wars, where Episode 1 was released 4th, etc.

It also doesn’t work for movies with unrelated entries. I have one collection “Christmas.” Oddly enough, those are various movies, not sequential releases from the same “cast.”

It would be nice if you could sort the latter by title, not release date.

It would also be nice if you could create sub-collections. Say, Christmas → Home Alone.

Just wishing out loud

You can manually move movies in a collection around and they’ll stay in that order. You have to do it through the web interface.

Grab the little grabber when you hover over the movie and you can drag it around:

It should stay in place after you do that.

For sub collections - those get funny to manage and it’s a popular requested feature: Nested Collections

Edit: You can’t manually sort smart collections though. I do have an “anime” smart collection just based on genre tags and the movies in that Project A-Ko collection also show up there so that’s kinduva way to do sub-collections… in a way. But it gets funny if you want some collections to hide content and some to show content so just be aware of that if movies fall into multiple collections.

Just edit the collection. The sorting order is on the Advanced tab.

But you can define a sorting order when you create the filter that is going to be the basis for the smart collection.
