I wish I had taken a screenshot but the message essentially said that Plex are required to ask for consent to sell personal information for accounts made before March 25, 2025.
You got that wrong, Plex. You are required to ask for consent to sell the personal information on every account used by a European no matter when that account was made.
There are no ifs or buts about this, it really is that simple and US courts, US congress, the White House are totally powerless to stop Europe making that your one and only law that applies around the world.
GDPR doesn’t mess about. It’s a real FAFO law. The only FAFO law. I mean ask Meta (Facebook), they were fined 1,200,000,000 euros and that was still far away from the 20% of global revenue Europe can fine for non-payment. Amazon were fined 746,000,000 euros. Meta were fined (yeah, them again, 405,000,000 euros). And Meta again for 390,000,000 euros… in the last four years they have getting fined a lot and it’s for things years before GDPR become enforceable and is now catching up with them.
You may may want make sure European customers get a different popup where the wording says Plex will always be required to get consent before selling personal information. Brussels really isn’t that friendly with Washington right now, there is no politics to play for the next three years. The EU and UK will just take the cash out of your bank account.
