Just updated my WIN10 box and something is hyper-f*cked can't even boot from fresh install

Sadly I don’t have much else to say.

People were getting transcoding errors, I checked my internal and external disks and they are fine.

I get “corrupt database” errors.
Tried the manual CMD repair everything said “OK”
still get the database corrupt error.

Tried Modifying and repairing from Control Panel…

Tried uninstalling and re-installing (after backing up the database) and still no luck.

Seriously… Something is majorly screwed up.

Tried Revo-Uninstaller and the like which will sniff out and delete all registry entries etc.
SO I know this Win10 Desktop had ZERO plex data on it.
.
I tried a fresh install and STILL get the corrupt database error.
.
I can’t collect any extra plex data because there’s literally none, because it can’t even spin up from a fresh install.
Event Viewer doesn’t log any errors for Plex.
.
Saw no Plex Media Server folder in the “local” folder… So it’s not even trying to find the database file at this point. wtf
This is beyond my comprehension.
.
Hopefully someone can shed light on this.

Major mistake. Never use it on a Plex server system. It has the potential to mess up your system really bad.

Open regedit.exe and look if the branch
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server\
exists.

Do also take a look at the default location of the Plex data folder
Does it exist and are there any log files in there?

The registry entry is there.
The folder that used to be in C:\Users<user>\AppData\Local is not there.

Trying to run the “modify” & “repair” from the Control Panel followed by a restart does not work in resolving the error.

Does the registry key LocalAppDataPath exist?
If yes, does it contain a valid path?
If you want to reset it to use the default location, simply delete the key LocalAppDataPath.

Did you point the installation routine to anything other than drive C: ?
If you did, uninstall, then go with the default location on drive C:

Ah I did offload the local app data (my OS is on a small SSD)
Should I uninstall and then just point the new install to the external array that I have it set to in the registry?
Or should I delete the registry entry and then just point it back to the external after the library spins up?
Thanks

Removed the entry in the registry that was pointing to my external array and re-installed Plex and it’s now up and sort of running.
.
I can’t seem to find the setting in the server config to point to the app_data that’s on my external.
.
Instructions say it’s under server, general, Show Advanced Options.
I don’t have any libraries setup currently, do I need to re-add those and THEN point it to the existing app_data which is on my external Array?
.
Very close to fixing this, thanks for your help. Much appreciated.

It’s Still VERY strange that I was getting bad transcoder messages before I nuked everything lol. Suppose I’ll never know what that was now that I’ve got a fresh plex install.
I did run disk error scans on all local drives and they all came back clean.
The only thing that took place before the errors started was a big multi-reboot set of updates from Windows 10.

I recommend you to use a totally separate folder for the plex data. Separate from the other apps’ configurations, and separate from your media files.
The restrictions mentioned in the following article need to be oberved: [HowTo] An extended guide on how to move the Plex data folder on Windows

I have the plex data in the external drive, separate from media files, and the “app” itself runs from my system C: drive.
I moved it all via the Plex application itself (when that option existed), any reason that option was removed? Was it corrupting people’s databases? lol.
.
Any thoughts on merging the old db with the current one so I can get people their view-history back? Assuming it’s a mysql database I can run a merge, I’ve just never done that before.
.
Appreciate the help

It was a reaction to a CVE Security: Regarding CVE-2020-5741

Merging is not possible. You should have copied the database when you were changing the location
If you follow this article with a target database which is not freshly created, you will get duplicate viewing events and other weirdness https://support.plex.tv/articles/201154527-move-viewstate-ratings-from-one-install-to-another/
