Just why do i need the internet by force to play my own local contents.

when you guys keep doing this then you’re giving us the impression that you designed the software to glean information from our system. and its not fair… i wish u had a competitor who will well serve us and WD passport pro

There are competitors. Some would say better, others not. You would just have to do some research. Not sure if the main Plex competitor makes your sign in and have a internet connection as well though.

First: Once it gets metadata for your library from the internet Plex works perfectly without any internet connection on every client I use. (Computer, Roku, Fire TV, Shield TV and Raspberry PI) You just have to allow insecure connections and not use Plex.TV as your access.

Emby also has a similar functionality and requires that you not use “Emby Connect” to use Emby without internet.

All systems that use metadata from the internet require an internet connection for initially acquiring said metadata.

There are LOTS of reasons for possibly moving to Emby but access without internet is not one of them. Personally I run both systems side by side (Using Trakt to keep watched status synced) because I cannot seem to decide that one is clearly superior to the other.
