I have a few users that like to pause sessions when they are finished watching them instead of stopping them, keeping them actively paused for hours and hours. I like the ability to kill the streams, but I need to do it without sending them a message. I simply want to kill their stream and have it stop. I do not want a nag screen to pop up on the user’s client. Is this possible yet?
No. With the current implementation, it will always send a message.
You know if that is or becomes possible I might just rethink my policy against sharing my libraries. There are a few people that I think it might be fun to mess with by killing streams at random and then blaming their setup, connection, children, significant other or a poltergeist or three. That could be fun.
In Plex Web, use the Status button (button left from Settings)
![]()
There you’ll find a menu for Now Playing.
You’ll see the backdrop and status of every ongoing playback.

Hover over the icon to display the overlay controls – by clicking the “x” you can terminate the playback.

You can but don’t have to provide a message for the user.

Edit: I stand corrected about the “no message” option.

Even if you don’t specify a message, a default message is sent, I would like no notification at all sent to the end user.
edit: just saw your edit. lol

correct answer, even if it wasn’t the one i was looking for. I really want to see this changed, thank you
i saw that option to kill a stream (without sending a notification) on tautulli, however i never try it, you might want to join there discord chat and ask, but like i say i never tried the option to know does send a notification or not

They do it outside of Plex’s system, so it may be different. I don’t use it myself so I don’t know if they show a message or not.

nah, they don’t do it outside of plex’s system. the result is the same as if you terminate from within the plex webui
