Killing PMP

Rocking Avengers Endgame HDR Remux as we speak on my Shield. :stuck_out_tongue:
99% of the time I’m all about the ATV 4K. I can’t believe how much that app has improved in the last 6 months.

As much as I loved PMP Embedded back in the day, times change, so I decided to change with them.

That’s my view also – frankly, if they fixed the scaling issues and added keyboard navigation (which, again, is not just a ā€œTV modeā€ issue but also a broad accesibility issue… it would suck if you could only use your mouse in any software!), then that would work for me.

I haven’t checked what the underlying player is capable of but I don’t have very complicated needs – I’m one of those people who just want DirectPlay (PMP was a lot better than on my Roku) and less devices around the house.

I was doing the same yesterday. Played all four Avengers movies back to back. 12 hours of sporadic audio dropouts made me :frowning:

Today I am removing the SSHD drives out of my two ShieldTV Pros and replacing with SSD.

On The Shield?

About Plex Labs, I had never heard of that page before (Link).

Strangely enough Sub-Zero is listed there, but Plugins were removed recently.
@pannal is looking at alternatives, and will possibly drop Sub-Zero completely in favor of Bazarr.

Sad times.

Yes due to the Shield Experience 8.0 update. Acknowledged and noted known issue by Nvidia, which they are investigating. The RCA has not been completed yet. Its not isolated to the Plex app.

This comes to show that relying on third-party vendors to get their s**t together is a dangerous game.

Sure Windows/Mac OS can break stuff sometimes (and they do), but they tend to be 10x more reactive than hardware vendors, who have little to no interest in maintaining those fringe products/use-cases.

I’ll add my comments for what’s it worth.

I’ve been trying different clients for the last 12 months in the quest for something that could cope with he audio passthrough

Finally this month I bought a gigabyte brix installed embedded PMP and it rocks

Better picture, everything direct plays. All my audio works.

Happy as Larry. Now I read your binnng it.

You have to be sh****** me

From a state perspective.

I use PMP jn the lounge
Firestick when travelling where there’s wifi
Plex for Android connecting tablet via HDMI where there’s not wifi

If I bin Plex you lose all three. Pass through audio in the lounge is my killer feature without it Plex gives me nothing

That’s interesting. My lack of passion for the Shield is well documented.

Mainly constant "Your server is not fast enough… " Since 8.0 I haven’t seen it once since, despite my reluctance to believe it was ever a Shield issue (It never once happened in Emby.)
One thing I have never suffered and haven’t had tonight is any audio dropouts.

Open Known Issues after release
- Pointer appears in PubG. Will be fixed in next release.
- System volume (Navigation) sounds lower in Android P/SE8.0 than Android O/SE7.x. Confirmed, reviewing reason for the change, considering to revert.
- Launcher app Icons zoomed/cropped. Investigating.
- TV loses sync (no input) on modesets (power on, wake from sleep, refresh/resolution changes). Investigating.
- Custom DNS entries appear to revert back to default. This is a UI issue, the custom DNS is in use but the default ones are being displayed. Will be fixed in future release.
- USB dac passthrough not working in Kodi. Investigating.
- USB audio level reset to 25% on reboot. Investigating.
- Wifi disconnects. Investigating.
- Wifi throughput issues causing 4k streaming, etc issues. Investigating.
- HD Audio dropouts. Investigating

Groan. Thanks. This bug caused my wife to basically toss away the Shield remote this morning and swear off the device. I’m disconnecting it today, it’ll go to a lesser-used location.

It’s just odd how different people see different issues. But like I said no issues with anything on my LG & Denon tonight.

I tossed mine away the day I bought the Shield lol. It didn’t take a bug. :grinning:

You may not notice it because the audio dropouts are blips measured in milliseconds. Depending on how your AVR/audio decoder handles it, you may or may not notice but its occurring.

This issue is somewhat of a showstopper for Shield users of any app

- TV loses sync (no input) on modesets (power on, wake from sleep, refresh/resolution changes). Investigating.

You keep saying this Elan, but you also must be aware that the Roku has very limited Direct Play capability for the HD Audio codecs, therefore the Roku does NOT have excellent support for Direct Play.

I will never ever buy any Apple device, so that rules out the ATV, and as we all know, the Shield may have near full Direct Play support, but is currently pretty flaky.

So… After January next year, the Shield will potentially be the ONLY ā€œsupportedā€ client that works as fluidly as PMP.

So… Any other reasonable suggestions?

You know what, I’ve been told otherwise today about the HD codecs on the Roku. Going to try it soon myself.

And here it is from the horses mouth. The new Plex for Windows app will never support audio passthrough!

If that’s the case, then fair enough. Still doesn’t mean I’m happy to go and buy another piece of hardware though.

Holy s**t…
