Lag spikes/buffering

Hello i have a problem with big bluray movies which are more than 20gb+. After 1 - 3 minutes movies started to lag/buffer and like this all the way to the end. Too much spikes and i cant even watch. I tried .mp4, m2ts, mkv all the same. WIth mkv is the worst. Spike on every 2-3 sec. I tried 40 mb transcoded, after that 20 no difference at all. Cpu is working around 85% , plenty of free memory, and network is around 10% on device manager. Could  it be the problem with that my router(nano station m2) is on 20mhz and apple tv can connect only on 65mb/s ?  I am with the latest Public PMS and latest plex connect. I have older plex connect but still the same. Thanks in advance.

PS - forgot to mention that apple tv is apple tv 3 :)

Does it happen if you gave your PMS and ATV hard wired?

I cant give my atv hard wired. They arent in the same room ;). I found something that i think is the problem but cant solved it. When i open my task manager i`m seeing that from my pc i am sending around 17-20 mb/s overall bitrate, but i am on 40 mb/s transcode... so ofc it will lag. My problem is why i am sending 17-20 when i got atleast 65 mb(130 to be accurate on PC and 65 on apple tv). And i cant figured it out why i `m sending 17-20mb/s when my movie is 33-37 mb/s overall? Is it pms somekind of limited or it is something else that happened to me? I`m understanding that in some strange way my router and atv cant comunicate with each other but i`m not sending the real mb/s from the begging (which is my Pc with windows 8). I know that i can watch when i set to 10-12mb/s the transcode i just want to make everything to work on max. I `m sure that it can be done but i cant figure it out how for now.

If both are linked at 65 and they are on the same wifi, then 17-20 sounds about right, since wifi is not synchronous, and the link speed doesn't include overhead and all the sort, seems spot on.  My suggestion, hard wire at least one of them.

First i said that my laptop is on 130mb wifi and apple tv 65 mb wifi (the same one). So you want to tell me that if i want to send the real around 33 mb/s movie overall bitrate i have to be wired and apple tv have to be at more than 65mb just to recieve them? So my problem is wifi problem between my devices?

Wifi is not good for sending HD movies, especially at that bitrate (the ATV's wifi is nowhere near the newer speeds).

Why not run a test hard wired or using powerline plugs?

I will try something else, to attach my pc(PMS) and my apple tv all alone on different router without internet even. And if that dont help again i will try powerline plugs. But still i want to make it all wireless.

Ok, i found the problem. The problem is my server(the pc where PMS is installed). I went to the store and bought another router espacialy for this connection between my pc and my apple tv 3. Both in the same room and both on wifi. Max bitrate at device manager was 2-2.9mb/s, soooo low and even that low my movie started to drop out, anyway i was so frustrated and continued to make tests. At the moment i push Lan cable into my PC the network went to 33-39mb/s and the movie didnt lag on the other side(apple tv 3 which was still connected on wifi). So the problem is with the PMS and especially with WIFI. Please can you check if thats a bug because it cant be possible to manage only 2-2.9mb/s on wifi when it is connected on much more and on the other hand to push the real limit once it is on hard wired. I think something isnt right at all and its not usefull that way. I want pms to send the real bitrate and i dont care even if the other device(apple tv3, ipad or ipod) cant handle it. Thank you.

Your tests just show there is a wifi issue with your setup, not at all that there is a PMS issue.

This sub forum is for PlexConnect issues only and PlexConnect is developed by people unrelated to Plex Inc.

Wifi is not good for reliable transmission of HD movies, I would suggest getting power line devices (you only need 200mbs ones that can be picked up for about $20.

I dont think you are right. Its impossible to have issues on 2 different routers and with the same behaviour! I understand that you are plexconnect related but i am posting here because i already have an open discussion here. So i think there is a bug in PMS which is only on WIFI. My points is 100% right because this ■■■■■■ bit rate is with every movie i tried, not only bluray. I wasnt tried this before but now i did it. Over wifi PMS didnt send the actual bit rate and not even close to it! I think thats a bug.

PS - thats my last post here because your plexconnect project works pritty much great. The problem is in PMS

If there is indeed a Plex Media Server bug you might want to head over to the PMS forum and let them know. Maybe they have more information for you to help find a solution.

By swapping the router you haven’t definitively found an issue with PMS. Step back a little and you will see that you MAY have , but much more likely that you have an issue with the wifi card in your PC. I would suggest trying it with another PC/laptop on wifi before making any assumptions

I dont think so, i am downloading with 10mb/s its 100 mbits so it cant be my wifi card issue. But never mind i know that if i want to use plex with max(real) bit rate on films, both of my devices should be WIRED.

I just want to repeat, as much as you say no...when you're using wifi on both devices at the same time you cannot assume that just because one device working on wifi at one time (speed tests or otherwise) is the same thing as streaming from one machine on wifi to another.  Most home grade wireless devices are a single channel wireless device.  So your router may have a hard time being able to handle the huge amounts of data your laptop is sending it only to then have to make sure it can send it to the ATV.  I know you say they are in the same room or close by, but tbh that doesnt mean anything, with wifi sometimes being in the same room is not always a good thing.  Wifi is very finicky.
