Setting for transcoder, what limits me?

Hi there!

I've got an setup with the latest ATV, latest OS (well, haven't installed 6.0.1 yet) and an iMac mid 2010 running PMS. I've noticed that if I use the setting 1080p 20Mbps or 40Mbps it pauses big 1080p-movies to "buffer" every few seconds, which seems to disappear if I change this setting setting in Plex on ATV that is) to 12 Mbps. Is there anyway I can (or maybe someone better at this than me) tell what limits me, is it the computer? The totally new router (since I've just moved to a house), or maybe the connection between the router and the computer? The computer is on another floor different from where the router and ATV is. ATV and router is in same room.

I get the feeling that it is the router (The iMac shows perfect connection to wifi), but is there anyway to see this? Thanks!

Use wires :)

Yeah run a wired test as Wifi is the likely culprit.
You can try fixing a WiFi issue but it might save you a lot of pain by getting some cheap 200mbps power line adapters (I would recommend the TPLink ones as they are pretty reliable and cheap; they contain exactly the same chipsets as ones you will pay triple the price for but are decent quality).

Last I read the ATV only gets 65Mb/s on 2.4Ghz wireless and since it doesn't make use of 40Hz on 5Ghz you're also stuck at 65Mb/s

Add some overhead, background noise, other clients, encryption, a floor or two, and maybe a couple walls... things might get slow.

As the others said... Wired is still the best option for high bitrates

I use Powerline adapters myself which solved all my pausing issues on my Rasplex.
