Hello, i started playing an HDR file today on a Firefox windows client and i got juttering transcoding. Realised i was using 50-60% of my CPU with the transcoder (Kaby Lake i7 7700 with Intel 630 iGPU).

Server is on the most recent PLEX Server version.

Assuming you’re referring to your recent watch session of Iron Man (2008) – it appears that video is being transcoded using your hardware. Could be the EAC audio transcoding is left with the CPU and might be a bit too much?!

Have you considered using the more capable desktop player instead of the browser version?
Browsers have many limitations when it comes to streaming media.

As a test, disable HDR tone mapping and see if the video streams better. The colors may be off due to the lack of tone mapping.

The server is transcoding using the GPU. However, it looks like it is tone mapping using the CPU. If the system cannot perform the tone mapping in real time, then playback will suffer.

See HDR to SDR Tone Mapping.

On Windows based systems, an 11th Gen (Tiger Lake) or later CPU is needed to tone map using the GPU.
