Hello guys!
I have following scheme:
NAS connected to AmpliFi HD (router) via Ethernet. Plex Server connected via WiFi N (300Mbps) and TV connected via WiFi AC (450Mbps).
Video stuttering (freeze for about half a second every 10 seconds)(H264 15,5Mbps). But when I connect TV via 100Mbps Ethernet, everything works fine. How is that possible when WiFi is much faster?
Using WiFi for a connection of a server to a network, any server, is almost always a mistake. Speed of the connection is also almost meaningless as, for a WiFi connection to a server, thinks like interference is MUCH more important and using WiFi connections for both server and client is just nearly assuring that there will be problems.
For reliability and stability your server really needs to connected wired.
However if you must try to force Plex to work with a wireless server try to find as clean a channel as possible. Channels 11 and 1 are often found to be pretty clean.
Having said that it is my STRONG belief that using WiFi for a Plex server is a mistake that simply is a huge set of problems waiting to happen even if it does work for a while.
A few missed packets and let the havoc ensue.
Never a WiFi connected server! you won’t see this in a data center either.
