I’ve been trying to configure the following setup:
- Plex running on a Google Cloud VM (plex.mydomain.net)
- Plex running on Synology NAS (LAN directly to IP)
Plex running on the NAS is fine, no issues there.
Installed Plex on the cloud VM and it’s working (it’s accessible) but when I login, the interface shows an old Plex server that has now been shut down and my LAN Plex (which it obviously can’t access from the cloud) and although the URL shows the cloud domain, it doesn’t allow me to add anything to the cloud instance.
- How do I clear out the old servers? (Strange it doesn’t show up on the LAN instance of Plex)
- How can I get the cloud instance of Plex to recognize itself?
I thought this was going to be pretty straight forward but it’s turning out to be a mess. The main motivation here is to be able to share home videos and old family photos hosted through my own instances and storage without access into my LAN.
The only alternative I’m looking at is YouTube Unlisted channel for the videos and Google Photos.
I know there are plenty of “video/photo” FOSS products out there and those are still an option, but I’d rather keep it in Plex if this kind of setup is possible.
