Large 4K media with Dolby Atmos etc cause LG Plex to stutter. Would an NVidia Shield TV sort out the issue? And what about getting Dolby Atmos audio to my amp?

So currently I use the Plex app on my LG E7 TV which generally works a treat. However large files (eg: >25GB), especially seemingly ones with Dolby Atmos audio can seem to cause Plex to stutter badly.

Now I suspect this is either, a) The TV only has a 100mbps ethernet socket, b) It simply cannot handle the processing required for that sort of video?

So my first question is, would an NVidia Shield TV be the right route to go down to watch high quality video/audio (4K HDR Dolby Video/Atmos) files on Plex?

And my second question is, as my Onkyo 646 amp does not support Dolby Vision pass thru, so what would the following configuration mean to my audio experience?:-
Shield TV --HDMI–> LG TV --HDMI ARC–> Onkyo Amp

Would it mean that my TV would then be getting Dolby Atmos audio for example sent to it, which it would then have to downscale to pass over the ARC to the amp?

If so, would I actually be able to hear the different in reality?

And if the answer to that is yes, then do I then need to go down the route of introducing a splitter such as a HD Fury AVR to send video from the NVidia Shield TV just to the TV, and the audio from the NVidia Shield TV (unalterered) just to the Amp?

Any advice/help appreciated.

please read whole thread @ Plex, 4k, transcoding, and you

all the answers are there.

The Invidia Shied can handle anything you throw at it, now your limitations will be bases on your TV and Amp. As you stated, if you connect the Shield to the receiver you loose DV but if you connect the Shield to the TV you may loose HD audio. Most TV’s do not support HD audio and you will also need eARC support on both the receiver and TV so you need to look at the specs for your devices.

As for your stuttering issue, again your TV probably does not support ATMOS. If your movie has a standard audio track, try playing the movie using that and see if you still have the issue. A 25 gig file should not be a high enough bit rate to exceed a 100 mbit network but you can look in your Plex server dashboard to see your network usage as well as if the video or audio is being transcoded.
