Large black area directly above the Live TV Guide

Plex Server version: 1.41.8.9834
iOS version: 18.5
Device version: 2025.17.0 (1082)

Live TV for “Guide” and “Favorites” has a large black area directly above the Guide when you first enter that area. Once you select a channel, that area is used to play what’s currently airing. Makes no sense to waste all that screen space, that could be used to show more channels, while scrolling to a channel of interest.

The guide should use that area for itself, until a channel is tapped on.

Agree, the preview should be optional, taking up that much guide data space for something we don’t require is just a bit silly.

I like the preview area as an idea, but it’s very poorly implemented.

-Like the op says, it should be hidden until something is played.

-On a tablet it looks atrocious because the box is left aligned leaving a huge stretch of empty space to the right. It looks basically broken but I can’t think of any solution for this. Something needs to change drastically with the look here.

-It sometimes breaks the layout, showing without a background.

-Sometimes it just shows a black picture, with only audio.

-The audio toggle works only sporadically, and can change state without user input.

-The popup should have a stop button.

-Sometimes it keeps playing the live tv over other channels or it fails to turn off when browsing other sections in the app.

So, basically, nothing at all works acceptably with this popup. Not sure how they can screw something like this up to this extent. The stability of playing the channels themselves seem fine and maybe even better than before, but this popup really ruins the experience completely.

Edit: It really seem like no special thought went into this. Like most of the app it feels just cobbled together hastily without any of the Plex touch I used to love. Like for example, why isn’t it possible to tap the channel one more time, when it’s already going, to maximize the preview? Just an example.
