Did any of you guys open the plex app on appleTV latley?
The liveTV is becoming more and more unusable. Channels names, Posters, Titles, no Channel Logos in the What’s On section. In the Guide section the currently running show is also not readable.
Please get a new GUI design for the LiveTV. That’s really not usable. Instead of 6 portrait styles, where you get in troubles showing the full title of what’s running. try a landscape mode, where the full title can be shown of the current show.
I would also appreaciate a pretty channel name. maybe a channel logo? How about fetching a screenshot of the actual running stream if no poster can be found?
What does your Guide look like? because that’s how I use the Live TV section on the Apple TV app. No problems with posters, channel logos, etc. Sometimes slow to load, but that could just be my server since I’m not using an SSD.
I will add that the “What’s On” view is kinda worthless in it’s current state, you’re not wrong.
Also I do wish Plex would fix the bugs with the Guide View where it doesn’t always load on the correct time (curser). Also if we could implement some way to go to a last channel and switch between them, OR Picture in Picture (oh my god, yes). That would be great.
I think the whole DVR/Plex experience right now is a crapshoot. Especially on Apple TV. It seems like Plex is working on fixing this, but I think it’s going to be a long long time before fixes start rolling out. It’s frustrating to say the least as to why it doesn’t work.
the thing with the “Guide” is the control. Devs working on this appleTV app should really get an appleTV and try their app on real devices.
Issue 1:
the guide is cutting off / not showing full titles of current running shows.
issue 2:
the appleTV remote has a touchfield, so up/down left/right is possible. movin down by tipping on the remote, is behaving strange, and sometimes jumping to future shows.
“zapping thru” is not really possible.
moving down in the guide (only down -not right not left) not down and right nor down and left) so only moving down is not possible in some cases, because the next row has a show, is very small because it’s duration is only 1-5 Minutes. So instead of going down, the “cursor” is jumping down AND right (into the future) while jumping back is not possible.
To put it simple TV has a zapping feature and this is not available in plex. Next /previous channel
Issue 3:
to much info at one site but none of it complete (cut off titles) so the whole point of an overview is becoming questionable.
I realize this is the main source of the problem- there is very limited options when it comes to input on the Apple TV. I would switch back to a windows based version if it had the guide (I should look back into that to see if they’ve added the guide to the Windows media player app) and then I go back to using my WMC remote and finally have my number buttons and last channel buttons back, but Plex would have to support that style of input just like Windows Media Center had. That would be heaven, I love the flexibility that Plex has given me after switching from Windows Media Center (running on Windows 7 mind you), but it’s still not the best living room experience to replace a set-top box and I understand that some of the limitations are based on the hardware itself like the Apple TV or Roku.
