Last couple of builds have gone from bad to worse when is it gonna be usable?

I have been using Plex “plex pass builds” almost exclusively on the XBOX ONE since the app came out. and in the last couple months the build have gone from Bad to worse. They are constantly losing/forgetting login. and playback has gotten worse and worse. Sometimes I get a black screen for a long time then a failed to play. some times I just get the failed to play. mostly now I get the sputtering playback. “and no I’m not on preview program.” I have 2 xbox ones and both have the issues. I have numerous other devices and they all work fine. I can even play remotely to iOS and samsung devices at my office in perfect quality! What the hell is going on and how much longer is this gonna be going on? I mean is it gonna be like this until after microsoft updates the dashboard or what?

The only solution I have found for the long black screen/failed to play errors is to turn of direct play. From what I have seen that issue has to do with direct playback of MKV file’s but we haven’t been able to narrow it down to a specific thing that causes the issue.

If you’re getting sputtering during playback, we can’t really help you without seeing your log file during playback and the media info for the file that is causing this during the playback. Without that all we can do is guess.

In my network I have a 10/100/1000 router in between my dedicated ubuntu server and my xbox one with both wired. With that setup I can play a straight bluray rip of Jurassic World at ~34Mbps video and audio being remuxed from DTS-MA to AC3 5.1 with no stuttering. So the capabilities of the App and Xbox are there, but we would need to figure out what is causing your issue.

Without a log and media info for a file showing the behavior, all we can do is guess. Your Network, underpowered CPU in the server, low disk space, slow hdd, remote server playback, server pulling files too slowly from a nas, etc.

There are just too many variables that it could be without any information to go on.

I’ve noticed plex is occasionally crashing on my server, in the last few builds, which annoying as it never has before =/

Enable Xbox One logging in the app by going to the settings screen using the menu button on your controller.

Once these are on, try and playback the troublesome media.

Then go and dig out your Plex Media Server logs as described here - https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200250417-Plex-Media-Server-Log-Files

We can take a look then and if we need more information, we may reach out for a sample of the troublesome media.
