Latest beta versions become default media player for device

I have to revert to version 7.31.0.16605-beta to fix this…

I have a Pixel 3.

The latest beta versions of Plex become the default media player on my device. I can no longer watch videos of my grandkids sent to me in Hangouts, Plex wants to play them, and then only plays the audio.

Also, the latest versions no longer ask which server to use when first launched after initial installation, and shows me my friend’s server rather than my own on the initial home screen.

Hi there

Thanks for the report!

We will look into the external player option. In regards to initial install, we now support use of the app without needing to sign in. This gives users access to our provider content such as free movies and shows so the app will not ask you to sign in and just let you enjoy plex straight away. You then just need to go to the “Sign in” option on the sidebar. But for the second part of your comment

and shows me my friend’s server rather than my own on the initial home screen.

You are seeing your friends server as the default after you have then signed in?

Thanks again for reporting

Correct.

I have same exact problem. Plex player forces itself as default for mp4 files.

Version 8.0.0.17191-beta has fixed the problem with being the default player.

I had to reinstall beta app twice and clear cache and storage from Plex app to make it work as expected.

I essentially did something similar. I had uninstalled and gone back to 7.31.0.16605-beta and then upgraded directly to 8.0.0.17191-beta. I had no issues.

I save old beta builds in case there is a severe regression such as this.
