After the latest upgrade plex cannot locate Preferences.xml file and is stuck at that part of startup.

Just seeing if this happened to anyone else or if it’s known, currently working on downgrading.

Update: looks like the upgrade wiped those files or made them unreadable???.. Even a downgrade is not fixing it :frowning:

Though the file exists, I can see it on the system no problem.

Previous version?
Current version?
Platform info: native, docker, vm, etc.?
Server log files? Navigate to Plex Data Folder, compress/zip the Logs directory & attach to thread.

Latest Release ( 1.41.4.9463) upgrade from previous release ( 1.41.3.9314)

running through APT on Ubuntu server

Which log? It generated about twenty, with the startup crash saying “Feb 12, 2025 18:12:38: Failed to initialize logging: Empty or non-existant file.”

Just saw the compress and zip, one sec, will do that. Sorry for missing that part.

plexLogs.zip (3.1 MB)

I resolved this all by uninstalling then reinstalling then re-granting permissions and plex is back up without issue… Not sure what caused the crash or failure to start, but I hope the logs help the devs.

I have the same issue on Windows 10 Home with my Plex Media Server. Everything is up and running with version 1.41.3.9314.
