Latest version of Server / LG tv apps not playing nice

TV1 - OLED55B6V, Player Version#4.29.9, WebOS 3.3.0
TV2 - SM8600PLA, Player Version#4.29.9, WebOS 4.8.0

I’ve been using plex fine for over a year with my current setup: 3.6Ghz quad i3 Mac mini, 8gb, two LG smart TVs using the plex app. Just recently the apps on the TVs where automagically updated to a new version with a different UI. This is where it all started to go wrong.

The new apps wouldn’t connect to the server, even when I logged out and back in again. All I was getting was my server was unavailable. So I checked the server for updates, and it said their where none. Yet when I checked the website, there was - and the version numbers seem to be miles apart. So, I downloaded that, installed and tried again.

I could now see my server again. But trying to play anything led to 3 or so minutes of playback followed by continuous buffering. When I quit out of that, it would say that it couldn’t load anything again. The only way to try and get past that was to either log out of the app, and then relink again using the plex.tv/link page. Then it worked for another couple of minutes.

So I checked here it it seemed that the latest version of the tv apps was early access for plex pass users. It indicated that by opting out of early access I’d get the previous version of the app, so I did. The app is now back tot the old layout, and I can still see the server. Playback is improved, but only in the sense that I can now watch 15 mins before it buggers up…

Do i need to roll back the server software? I’m at a loss as to what else it could be… my network is solid (netgear Orbi RBR50 mesh) , and nothing has changed on that recently (no new hardware, nothing flooding the network, etc etc). My internet connection is also good ~400mbsec down, 40ish up, if that has any bearing - I can’t think how it would as this is all occurring within my local net, not out in the wild.

Any ideas? I’m getting close to getting my old Apple TV’s out and plugging them back in.
