Something I noticed for the first time tonight after streaming my first 4K movie to my LG UHD6500. The onboard Plex player doesn’t support HDR. In fact it won’t even play the “Original” quality, it “Converts” it.
However when I play it on my Roku Ultra (Same TV), my HDR settings kicks in just fine.
Is there a work around for this? Or will the app eventually support HDR?
The app does support HDR when direct played. Will need to investigate why it isn’t direct playing. In the app there is an option to enable logging back to your PMS. Turn this on, recreate the problem, upload the PMS logs.
I have the same issue on my EF9500 WebOS 2.0 OLED.
The app does not play 4K HDR correctly.
Worse still, HDR is not supported via HDMI on these TVs, so I cannot use a compatible streamer. It has to be via app. The DLNA items presented to SmartShare via Plex results in Format not supported error.
I installed Emby and the Emby client plays HDR correctly.
Were you able to identify the cause?
I am running:
Plex for LG: 3.105.0
webOS 2.2.0
XPlay and Emby work fine, just can’t get DirectPlay working on Plex client for my LG 55EF9500
