LG Web OS Player just plain doesn’t work

I’m only able to play about 50% of my library on my LG TV using the Plex App. The same content works fine on iPad, iPhone, android and in my browser.

The content either buffers or just wont even start playing. I’ve seen lots of posts here about this but no response from devs or support.

I would be trying to check your LG app setting, my app works fine with a LG 65OLEDB8. HD-MA 7.1 channel audio Titles are an issue but don’t have to many of those.

You have left a few details out in your post, Version of PMS, app version, TV model, Ethernet or Wifi. Please reply with more detail.

I have a new LG77C9 TV with a plex 673 server. All hardwired. Playing 4k movies works great, but older one that are from the 80s just continuously buffer…frustrating!!! Any ideas?

Make sure you’re not transcoding.

For the Plex app on LG TVs:

  • Enabling PGS or VOBSUB subtitles forces a video transcode.
  • If audio is transcoding, enabling any subtitle forces a video transcode.
  • If audio is direct playing, SRT subtitles will direct play.

Your TV does not support TrueHD audio. Plex will transcode it to a supported format. So, avoid TrueHD if you’re using subtitles.

AC3/EAC3/dts audio direct play on my 55 B7 OLED.

Try playing one of the troublesome movies. Select Dolby Digital or dts audio, 5.1 channels or less. No subtitles.

During playback, monitor the system via Plex Dashboard. See if the media is direct playing / direct streaming / transcoding.

Thanks Ford…I have tried that (turning off TrueHD) in a few cases…it’s weird…my 4k movies work perfect on that LG OLED TV…Older 80’s movies…just spin
