Libraries become "Not authorized" when they were previously authorized

Server Version#: 4.76.1
Player Version#: http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html#!/settings/web/player

I have been running Plex Media Servers for years. For the last year, I’ve been running one off a Windows laptop and I’ve not been having any trouble. I use an external USB drive for the media. I recently got a new external USB drive, but I don’t know if that relates to my problem. A week or so ago when I launched the player on the laptop where the server is running all my libraries had a warning triangle on them and when I select one I get the message “Not authorized - You do not have access to this server”. I’d never seen this before. I searched for possible solutions online, but none appeared to be related since I’m running the player and the server on the same machine. When I try to access the server from my Apple TV it says it’s offline. I tried suggestions online to fix it, but nothing worked. I ended up completely removing the media server and reinstalling. After reinstalling, it worked for a while, but then today suddenly I started getting the “Not Authorized” message again. This is the first time I’ve had this happen and I’ve been running Plex servers for years. Does anyone know what’s causing this and how to prevent it?

Some more information. I’m a Plex Pass subscriber if that matters. I’m logged in as the admin user when trying to view the libraries. When it’s in this state I can’t get to the server settings to edit the libraries.

Thanks.
Andy

This is strange. I decided to try my server again today and it magically worked again. I made no changes to the system, but my libraries now show up locally on my laptop and on my Apple TV.

This keeps happening to me every few days. A quick reboot of the Plex app on my computer fixes it, but I eventually get the “not authorized message” eventually. I have no clue what keeps causing this.

I am getting this same issue. But closing and reopening the app doesn’t solve the issue. Now I can’t access my own library that I previously could and can’t stream to any TV in the house.

Anyone have a fix? I am running PLEX off a QNAP NAS and a mac mini desktop.

Unfortunately, I don’t have anything other than rebooting to suggest. I think that’s what fixed it for me.

Verify that all devices involved have set the correct date and time (preferably enable automatic time synchronization [ntp]).

Then you might have to perform Why am I locked out of Server Settings and how do I get in? | Plex Support

Did your Plex stop doing this altogether, or did this problem come back?

It has happened a total of three times for me. The last two times a reboot of the computer running the Plex server fixed the issue. It has not happened for a few weeks. I’m running the server on a Windows laptop and I don’t know if that has anything to do with the problem and why rebooting fixes it.

One of you mentioned getting a new USB drive.
Have you gone into Windows Device Manager and told the USB device NOT to power down to down energy?
I had similar problems after installing a new USB drive.
